I had a friend build one out of field stone and it worked fine, the only problem they had was with the mortar joints cracking. They fixed the joints with a different type of mortar and it held up...
I don't have a filter tank either. We use a stainless steal milk strainer. These are easy to find locally or there is a ton of them on e bay.
Something to keep my German Shorthairs from floating their jowels in the sap pails.
I'll take care of the East side of Tennesse, we are moving there, a little South of Pigeon Forge.
We may be re locating to East Tennessee south of Knoxville, this is good news that there is a season down there. I don't know if there are Maples over that way. Anyone know if there are Maples along...
Just buy a stove thimble for the size chimney you want to use, cut the block so it will fit & mortar it in. I went up with a masonry chimney but regular stove pipe is fine. Get up about 6' or so for...
I built a block arch for my 2x4 pan. It was 4 courses high (32"). I ran the chimney out the back. It worked fine. I also lined it with fire brick to protect the block & mortar from the heat. I filled...
Thank you, so you don't have the big tapered stack base I take it. That will save me a lot of extra work.
I'm in the process of building my 2x4 arch. Do I need the wide stack base as seen on the bigger units? I would like to vent the chimney right out the back similar to the hobby type Masons. I just...
That's a fine looking operation!
I built a masonry evaporator, and filled the cores with sand. I still lined it with fire brick. Block will not hold up without a lining. Arch board behind the fire brick is a good idea. We learned...
Is there an actual formula to determine evaporation rate?
Thanks Nace, I;ll do some checking too.
Hi Nace, I will be over on the East side by Etowah, next to the mountains. Tell me more please. Thank you for responding. I also have a "Tennessee Sap Cooker" for the Maple Mash.

They do, but it sucks on pancakes.
I may be relocating to Tennessee. Does anyone know if they have a sap season for making syrup down there ? They do have Maple trees, just not sure about tapping.
Just seen them at Tractor Supply for cattle tanks ect. About & 20.00 for a decent one. It has a small copper float. I don't know if they are adjustable though.
These folks have a ton of them, pretty cheap too. These guys are from upper Michigan. You probably can get a good volume deal. I would offer $3.00....
Wow, that would be a great addition to our sap farm.
I'm a new guy at this, what purpose does the large screen perform. I would like one, just not sure about how it all works ?
Never mind I found the site, really nice product.
Do you have a link I could take a look at this pan?
I just finished reading some posts where people bought 2 x 4 pans with "Reverse Flow"
Can some one explain what reverse flow is & how it works?
My pan is 24x48. I'm building a masonry arch with a fire brick liner. I plan on putting a sloped bottom in it like the factory models. The fire box will be 24" wide by 16" deep & 16" high. The sloped...
