I thought last year was bad but this year proved me wrong, I made 72 gallons in 2011, 37 last year and 32 this year. I think it might have something to do with the drought last summer. Pulled 200...
Yeah, I think the season might be over as well here in SW Wisconsin. Temps are going to be to warm, who would have thought that we would get two years in a row like this ?
That syrup would be to die for ...........
Now that's funny

Wait till we get a "good" year Mike, these last two years have sucked, thinking 2013 isn't going to be much better than last year. If we get a good year you will get sick of seeing sap lol
Why do you tap so close to the ground ?
The V V V V V up design is the way to go, I have had mine for 5 seasons with no warn at all. The V's fill up with ash and insulate the steel so it doesn't get as hot, works great :)

What is the best you can do per square foot on a flat pan, gallons of sap cooked per hour ?
Don't put anything in the hole, it will heal faster without.
Do you put the paper filters on both sides of the plates, it's a hand pump filter press with three banks. Also I filter about 4 gallons of syrup at a time with a few hours in between draws, do I need...
You need to "tinker" a bit to figure out how fast you need to add the new sap coming in to maintain the deapth that you want and so days the sap boils off at a faster rate but once you have done it...

Everything is cleaned up and ready for next year, made 72 gallons this year. I really need to get a filter press, so sick of waiting for syrup to pass through filters. Over all very good year in S.W....
Yes, you can add some to it to thin it down a bit then keep checking it till you get to the top red line when boiling.
I bought mine on ebay and I went with the 8#
Seams to me we bottle syrup in plastic bottles when we sell it......should be fine.
Please tell me, who else buys syrup in Wisconsin besides Anderson's ?
