I think that is correct but last year I made my lightest syrup the last 2 weeks of March. I think last year was strange though.
Wow! That is quite the collection system.

My yearly supply is growing! Good start so dar. Next week looks great for sap.
definitely get a candy thermometer. Make sure to test it with boiling water first to see exactly where it says the boiling point is. Mine is off a degree or 2 so I just add the temp for syrup from...
There are a number of trees that will give you sap like walnut and birch. Course they taste different but makes good syrup. I don’t know that there are bad trees to tap, most just won’t give you any...
Taps are in. Sap was flowing today. Tomorrow should be better.
Sugar was 1.75% on woods Norways.
Mostly all tapped. 23 taps put in today. Sap was running. Tomorrow should be better.
Sugar was 1.75% so far.
Anyone else tapped?
I will put most of my taps in Saturday morning (around 18). Starting next Thursday it looks good for several weeks. Might get a short run this Saturday and Sunday. Let the drips begin!!!
I have been told to treat it a little like milk. Milk is good in the fridge for a week or 2. Above 50 degrees it can spoil pretty quick. So I have been told ;)
I plan on starting to tap this weekend. Looks like 2 days to run and then again going into next weekend after 3 days of warm.
Any concerns the sugar will be low from such a wet year? Fruit is always sweeter during dry years.
I am south of Chambersburg and am waiting with the rest of you. Next weekend at the soonest but...
Thanks everyone for some input.
I think I will try some dishwasher detergent. I believe they also have enzymes in them that breakdown oil. I also have a small pressure washer I can try but...
Speaking from experience with oil or general experiance with odor/flavors getting into sap?
So I got 2 330 gallons totes that had sunflower oil in them this summer for free. I should have cleaned them right away but I didn’t. I am now trying to clean them. So far I put a gallon of dawn soap...
I use tap water or the RO water from the sap.
Yes, I always flush with clean water after using it. Didn’t know if I should store wet or take it apart and dry it out for long term storage. Also if I should sanitize with something.
I searched and didn't quickly see a past post though I am guessing there is...but
How do you clean and store you RO system for the year? Just run water through to get sugar out then just store it?...
I got a RO bucket this year as will and like it. I added a second membrane to pull more water out. Still learning but I think I was pulling 5 gallons out in 50 minutes.
I think the sap is done here in south central PA. I boiled the last I had and made the lighest syrup yet. 18352Made 2.1 gallons total. This was my first year and learned a lot. Need to line up more...
I think we are at the end for south central Pa. Trees that ran great last week have slowed way down dispite a good reset the last few days. I am guessing tomorrow is my last collection day.
I only have Norway Maples to tap presently and see a huge huge difference depending on open trees versus woods. Open trees I see a consistent 2% or more and the woods started at 1% and is down to...
Had a great 2 week run in south central Pa but froze up on Tuesday. Starting tomorrow suppose to be 40’s/20’s for the next 7-8 days. I accidentally let some boiled down sap run over some burnt sugar...
I am thinking I will have 30 gallons or so this week as well. No sap running today though, too cold.
Forecast just keeps going on forever for perfect temps.
Thanks Dennis.
So good year versus bad year of sugar is .5%. I thought maybe there would be more swing than that.
