Funny this thread just popped back up. I found myself a CDL Turbo 250 RO that I picked up in NY this past weekend. The machine is the 600 cabinet with the 3 HP turbo and a 1 HP feed pump, 2012...
We added 200 watt panels to our 100 watt setups this year and charging/battery swapping was much improved. Recommend at least 200w of panels, 300w is better.
Congrats on a good season Brian, pushing 0.5g/tap is a big feat!
Made it to 71.5 gallons, a new high for us. Everything is bottled or barreled, pans are soaking and will pull taps after the rest of our snow melts.
Last boil underway here in Peru. Collected another 325 gallons this morning at 1.4 brix. Sap was still running some but I shut the pumps off. This is enough for us for the season, easier to end it...
Best of luck spud, our trees are white over here in western Maine as well with fresh snow. 1 bush was still pulling this morning but the others are all done. We seem to have a very similar start,...
If you're using Shurflo vacuum, go with 1" mainline to let more air in the line. We have 1" mainline on 170 taps in 1 bush and it is perfect. During a good run, the mainline is half air and half...
If you need any mainline T’s or Y’s and don’t have the mainline tools to press them on make sure you use plastic and not stainless. You will not get stainless fittings on without the tool and heat. ...
310 more gallons today. Sap is about done running and it has that end of season smell to it. Vacuum lines at 20” just down to a trickle. This may be the last boil. Syrup is getting dark, probably...
Collected another 410g today and am boiling it off. Wanted to get it through quick with the warm temps. Sap did cloud up a little bit but it’s not terrible. This midweek storm should be...
10-4, that makes sense
Another 560 gallons of sap collected yesterday. It hasn’t froze and kept on pulling. A 2+ GPT run. Syrup lightened up to Amber in the 60’s I am guessing. Will test and bottle today. We are at...
Revived an old thread rather than starting a new one. Is 1/2” pipe the standard for most preheaters? I am going to have one built and he is suggesting 1/2”. I was thinking 3/4” pipe in my head...
You guys might want to check out this site, he is a member on here and has all sorts of different things. We have one of the temp controllers and it works good on our solar shurflo setup. Just...
Cooked off 500 gallons yesterday and should have another 300 at least for tomorrow, maybe more. Still running but should slow down tomorrow.
Oh man, sorry to hear that. I had a kidney stone once about 10 years ago so understand the pain!! Not fun, hang in there. We had the best sugar and lightest syrup off this last cold snap.
Had some big changes in drawoff temps on last nights boil, a full 2 degrees form start to end. Started out good and had to chase it for next 4 drawoffs to dial it in. Ended up at 220.5 for syrup. ...
Hell of a sap run overnight and thru today. Really dumping and sap is crystal clear and tested at 2% which is our best of the season. Collected 280 and there’s another 200 in the woods. Should run...
We have the Smoky Lake Maple Simplicity auto draw for our 2x6. Love it, 5th year on it and works like a champ every time. You still need to calibrate daily when you first get going with a boil but...
Interesting discussion, why would the feed rate not match the evaporation rate? Is it to do with the surging of drawoffs? Hence the advantage of modulating drawoffs?
26” of snow in Peru. We were fortunate, light and fluffy snow, no ice and winds weren’t bad. Vacuum still OK. Spent most of the day cleaning up and helping others. Sap started running about 3:30...
I am by no means an expert, but I believe most, if not all of the Springtechs are NOT expandable which is why you see them for a little less money than other 600’s for sale.
Collected another 440 gallons today, will boil some tonight and finish it up tomorrow. Looks like a freeze tonight and may get some more to boil tomorrow, but then a long freeze. Trees still look...
Good to hear from you Nate, give it hell!
