its not going to be easy getting the sap out of the woods thats for sure. we set up a pump from the woods tank to the head tank this year, we'll see how it goes. 500' of run, 40-50' of rise. but...
we had about 30-40 out this year, no probelms pulling them. i actually had trouble pulling the ends off to plug them into the T.
did you get a run on sunday? we pulled all our taps and cleaned up everything, but it was running decent. just have the last of the sweet in the pans to boil down on the turkey fryer.
glad to hear you are still getting sap. we had a good run mon-tue, but nothing really to speak of since. our trees may have called it quits.
the blower is coming in from the front, but set up just like maple flats. with a 4 inch duct, capped and 3/4" holes so the air blows up into the bottom of the fire, not towards the back of the...
we are firing a little more often than we were pre-blower, so the fire is not dieing out on us. stack temps remain pretty constant. our draws are slow, a little faster than a trickle, and...
today was our first time boiling with a squirrel cage blower, not sure of the CFM, but it blows good. The evap rate was great, somewhere around 30-32 GPH.
our draws were a lot shorter than...
that happened a few years back, it was a joke of a season, maybe 3 weeks long.
we are tapping this weekend (sat). can't wait for the run to start so we can see how our first attempt at a...
i would cut it, but it may not stop the decay of the trunk where they split. once one half dies, many of it's "veins" that run to the root also die, and will eventually rot out, leaving a hole in...
we have drop flues, but they do not have a drain on them. to empty, we siphon out as much as possible and then take the pan off and flip t over (we only empty it at the end of the season).

boiled Thu night and Fri night, had our first draw-off, 1.5 gals of grade A Fancy!! also collected 170 gals of sap in 36 hours. i have to get in the woods and count out taps, but we should be...
all of our tubing is gravity, most of it has a pretty good slope, so some natural vacuum occurs.
we put our collection barrels out yesterday afternoon, and collected this afternoon. we got 90...
keep an eye on those taps! ours were running very well, this should be a good week for a first run. hope all is well with you and your family!
i had a great day, although tapping in the snow is one heck of a workout!! i was very surprised to see the taps running as well as they were, even our reds were running real well! this should...
depending where the tubing is stretched, you may not have to replace it. if it is stretched at the beginning of your line, with only a couple taps running into it, you probably are safe leaving...
congrats on the good season sean, you did better than us. we had a bad burn out early on which cost us a lot of syrup. our grand total was 10.5 gals of syrup, 2 of which is grade A fancy, and...
"we have to much sap"
"it's boiling to fast"
"it's cold and dry in here"
we are in the same boat. not nearly enough sap coming out of our lines. 170 taps, and only collecting 40-50 gallons/day. but we have a consistent 2% on our blend of reds and sugars.
we have 65 taps going into 1/2" at the top of 200' run. it handles that no problem. as we expand, there will be as many as 150 taps on this run of 1/2".
you could use Land Ark sealer. it is all natural and food safe.
i'm hoping to use it in ours this summer.

hi sean,
what time are you firing up? I was thinking of heading up your way in the AM

We installed all of our new tubing, tying existing lines into the mainline and reconfiguring at the same time. we got our 220 storage tank repaired and in the woods, head tank installed and plumbed...
everyone talking about tapping is getting to me. I'm still holding out till mid to late feb, hoping winter will come.....
your best friend in saw diagnostics is a compression tester. pick one up at your local auto parts store, they are cheap, and can be used on many other things. you can also take your muffler off...
