The arch is the “firebox” that the pans sit on. The evaporator would generally be referring to the whole setup= arch + pans. As suggested above, look into the spring seminars at Bascom Maple that...

The sap filters like what Bascom sells?
https://bascommaple.com/collections/filters
We use them, need to order some more actually so thanks for the reminder!
Yup- 620 gallons collected. Run is pretty much done until a freeze but it was a good one. Cook some tonight and do the rest tomorrow.
Just checked the pans our Darveau evaporator and exactly 2x2. Sounds like some bean counter at D&G saving on steel
Running like hell over here on vacuum lines. 18” on the shurflos after chasing down a couple leaks today. Not sure what we will have for a boil tomorrow but could push 600 gallons. Pumps are on,...
Thanks guys, I'll bring our brush and a 5g pail of water to do some scrubbing and use the water to rinse the brush. I'll probably order and try that brush head ennis, thank you.
Ennis,
What do you use to clean the tanks in the bush? We have upgraded to stainless tanks everywhere and next drain I know they should be scrubbed. Thinking of carrying some 5g pails of water...
It really depends on how much much you want spend and how you want to bottle. You have enough taps to run a 7" filter press. If you "batch bottle" like us and most small producers, wait until you...
Dang west sumner, that sounds like a close call. Water has continued to receded around here so hopefully you’re OK. Collected another 420 gallons today and boiling. Looks like we might have some...
Yes you can. Keep the syrup under 190 after it is filtered to avoid forming any new sugar sand. And double check your density as you reheat to make sure it is still close and not too heavy.
We're experiencing the same thing as tcross this year so I would say coincidence as well. I guess its a "finer" niter so it is sludging up more.
Have you asked if they will ship it?
Congrats Dave, you won’t be disappointed in switching to oil. Full throttle from start to end. That’s a good price, I second having the tri-clamp fitting set up. We are fortunate to have a very...
It sounds like you’re experienced with the press. I assume it’s the correct DE- from a maple supplier? How old is the DE? What size press? Full bank or short bank?
Cooked off the 440 gallons yesterday. Probably another 200-300 in the woods that I will collect and boil tomorrow. Nice freeze and cold day today will set up for a good recharge for a mid week run....
Sap ran pretty good today and should continue tonight with this low pressure system coming in. Collected 440 gallons tonight. 6-10” of snow is going to be a mess but will help keep the woods floor...
Ok run today, stronger freeze tonight will help. Should pull thru the storm Sunday. Gonna boil again Sunday. 2 boils, both during storms this year. Lost power last time for a couple hours but had...
That's too bad to hear Ken's and others' experiences, but probably explains why we have lost a lot of good traders on here. Hard enough to find time and post to help others, let alone battle erratic...
They should be fine with a soap wash and proper rinse done assuming they are still soaking in permeate. Not a bad idea to add some fresh permeate every few days if you have it as wnybassman...
Collected 475 gallons today, first boil underway. That’s a big first boil for us, sap has been running pretty hard last couple days and just now slowing down. Hope for cooler weather end of the...
Sugar was at 1.7 here as well. That’s a little low for us and we usually gradually drop off as the season progresses. Good run the past couple days, slowing down now. Couple warm nights then...
Busy weekend. Chased leaks Saturday and cut a downed 12” oak off the mainline from the windstorm. Finished chasing leaks today and got the evaporator and shack ready to go. 1 bush finally started...
Great story, thanks for sharing.
Good to hear. Our first decent sap run today but 2 bushes still pretty slow. We will boil Tuesday.
Sap still not running very hard here today but it is running. Spent the day chasing some leaks and getting ready. Will leave the pumps on tonight and decide if we do our first boil tomorrow. ...
