Has anyone used this tool?
Only have +/- 50 taps on tubing and this price point is better than some of the others out there.
It will come, patience. My trees take a good two days of 45+ to shake off a good freeze. Today you will be fine. Going to push 60 in some parts. Was 28 on my way into work this morning. Today should...
Also a very slow day yesterday. Came home expecting full buckets. Things didn't break free until late afternoon. Hoping for good flow through Wednesday.
Best flow of the season so far this morning, lines are running great. Up to 40 taps on 3/16 tubing. Waiting another week or two for my +/- 30 buckets.
I tapped my 30 - 3/16 tubing taps yesterday! Will wait until (Hopefully) Mid Feb for my 40 buckets. Amazing stretch of weather coming for the next 10-14 days in south-central CT.
The forecast is about as good as it gets. 14 straight days of ideal tapping.
I understand it's all about what mother nature decides to give but this year is a little unique for my season timing....
Thank you guys so much for the info. You helped me solidify my decision on tapping the tubing today. Still tons to learn and figure out but the lines are up, everything is tight and hoping for the...
Awesome, thanks Dr Tim! I plan to tap the 3/16 soon as it has been unusually mild in southern New England and the forecast shows 14 straight days of 42-46 and 27-32 at night. Too good to pass up....
Thanks for the replies! I'm only on gravity. I have about 15' of elev. change between top and tank with most of the trees at the top. Hoping this can generate a decent amount of vacuum. I was hoping...
A few questions before I start tapping. This is my first year with tubing and this forum has been instrumental to me understanding things!
1. What is the tap life expectancy of 3/16 lines with CV...
No RO. I figure I had no problem doing 25 taps on my hotel pan last year at 3 gph. I think I can get the mason safely to 9 gph with AUF and good wood. In theory I'll be ahead of last years rate...
A week ago I was hell bent on waiting for February. Now I'm seriously considering tapping my 3/16 lines this Wednesday. I'll hold off on my 40 buckets for a few more weeks. I've heard 3/16 with CV...
Also have some new equipment this year and an increased tap count. I've got the itch. I plan on waiting at least a few more weeks. My 14 day forecast only shows two days over 40. I don't think my...
Kcorey, I'm in Killingworth. This year I'm going to do 60-70 taps on a WF Mason 2x3. It's my first year with it and I can't wait. I really enjoy the hobby and don't mind spending hours boiling. I...
Thanks guys. Got it wired up today! Not the best setup for wiring it for a plug. Cut up an old 12 ga extension cord. Works great, blows like crazy!
Anyone have a WF Mason with a blower from him?
I went to wire mine up today and just wanted to confirm a few things. I just received a blower mounted to the evaporator and an independent variable...
Also wondering this. He is finishing my evaporator this week. I don't plan on buying the paper for that reason, it is expensive but would be interested to see what others say.
If you plan on...
Great. Thanks guys. I did see those fittings and I had planned on getting them and figuring it out on the fly.
Do you have any tips for preventing leaks? My understanding is good drill bit with...
I'm playing with the idea of a trial of 3/16 tubing this year. I'm relatively new to sugaring and never done tubing. I have read a ton of great info on here and various other sites on the web. I have...
All great stuff here! Thanks a bunch. Really good points that I hadn't thought of, especially with draining the sweetened pan into containers, storing cold, and restarting the next boil with sweet...
Thanks for the reply BlueMaple. The website is a little misleading but I did catch that last photo. Just hard to differentiate where the full/half were used and how many. Thanks!
Awesome stuff! Thanks for the responses.
Looks like I will make every effort to try to keep the pan sweetened as much as possible. Great suggestion to just empty the pan and pour it right back in...
I'm a small scale hobby setup with maybe 50-60 taps this year. It's my first year with an actual evaporator (WF Mason 2x3), which I'm looking forward to very much. I Batch boiled last year on a...
Thanks for the share! Mine should be ready sometime in December. Can't wait. Did you use any full bricks, or all half bricks? How many bricks did you use?
