After consulting the weather forecast, I tapped the majority of my trees yesterday, 1/30. Was rewarded with about 100 gallons of sap as of when I shut off the vacuum last night. I'll tap the...
I got 95 gallons of sap from yesterday, but now the calendar looks bad for the next week plus.
Did my last boil for the year - finished up with about 28 gallons of sap per tap, and what will be a...
Spring peepers heard last night and this morning!!
Temp is forecast to be 75 today, cold front coming through later, but doesn't look like much freezing weather in the next week. Processing 155...
Glad you're off and running! At that rate you should eclipse me in the next day or so! I've made about 19 gallons here in the south and working on another 200 gallons of sap right now. This is...

I am always interested and a little surprised how local conditions affect flow. I just finished a couple of gallons of syrup yesterday, and have maybe 3 or so more to do today, meanwhile...
dcast did you get everything together and taps in? I had a personal best day for collection on Thursday with a total of 200 gallons of sap - almost 2 gallons per tap. Wednesday and Friday weren't...
And we're off!
I got antsy and tapped on Saturday thinking I might get some sap on Sunday. Turned on the vacuum and fixed some leaks on Sunday, but no flow till yesterday when I got maybe 20...
I'm looking forward to a good season - with some luck and weather!
Spent the last few years on the sidelines due to a bunch of personal issues, but I have spent the last 4 weeks getting everything...
This forum has been great for learning and sharing experience, info, etc.
Wondering if there are folks out there who would be interested in meeting for breakfast, pizza or something like that...
The RO doesn't make syrup but it sure makes it a lot easier to do so. With my small operation, using a flat pan 2x3 evaporator, my max boiling rate is about 7GPM. Especially with my low sugar...
Well I am surprised that in NYC you can even find a maple. I heard that "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn"
Good run here today, 120 gallons and still coming, with what I got in the last day or so, might have a full tote and need to take tomorrow off work and cook again.
Looks like after this run, next...
Yeah trees are back in production mode after the cold.
What kind of maples do you have there? Reds I assume? What gear are you using?
Regards
Cold weather (sap ice) broke one of the fittings in the vacuum system, so when I turned things on yesterday, had a mother of a vacuum leak from the sap pump. Think after the season, i will change...
One more thing - If you haven't seen one, I suggest you take a look (You are welcome to stop by here - I am near Flemington) - and I am sure Teddy would also be willing for you to visit.

A week might be possible if you are a decent fabricator, and have the parts. However, if you don't have the parts, it will take a bit to collect them (Ebay, Amazon, etc.) If you look...
So 200 Gallons made 2.5, plus a little extra left over. I call it 80:1. 56% Transmittance, so that's Grade A Amber (on the darker side of amber) according to the checker.
Those figures are about...
Mickey - glad it is of help. I just wish I had trees like yours for the sugar content! I got what looks like it is going to be 2.5 to 3 gallons of bottled syrup from 200 gallons of sap! Looks real...
WARNING!!!
You know what happens - make it easier and you then have to expand your operation till it is too much to handle!
I used to use bags and they work ok - you just need to watch out for pricker bushes in your sugarbush. I have a lot of barberry and multiflora rose - I don't like hauling sap, so I went to tubing...
So almost nothing yesterday - maybe 5 gallons.
Run started late today, I thought it was going to be a bust, but at 5pm I had 50 gallons. I looked just now (before 9pm) and I have over 100 gallons...
Since the weather looks favorable, I tapped today. May be a little early, but we'll see.
Slowly getting things ready here. Got the vacuum system all together, going out today to check and set lines. Biggest progress this year was helping 5050 get his new RO built. No sugar shack this...
I heard peepers last night driving with the windows closed and the radio on. Crocuses blooming, daffodils 10 inches high. Red maples all have fat red buds. Record high temperatures in Antartica. ...
Mickey, sorry didn't see your note till just now. I would be happy to give it to you, but my schedule is totally wacky this week because my dad just had surgery.
Looks like 5050 has you covered...
