Not whelmed by the massive increase in temps projected for next week. It better not jump right into summer.
>it broke the pvc valve
Welcome to my world. Next time I don't leave the valve on the tank open to the ball valve
Well, no, the gradient was established before I hit the 100 Gal mark. In fact, I am near to drawing off my first batch of syrup with my next boil. I will get back to you on my sugar content. Used to...
I throw an old galvy bucket over the top of the chimney between boils.
I suspect you're going to get rust anyways unless the stack is stainless. Remember, Rust Never Sleeps.
So far I've boiled out about100 gallons, the pan is sweetened. I did an impromptu boil last night after pumping out my barrels before the big freeze because it is a PITA waiting for barrels/holding...
Why do you have a cap? It's my understanding a cap will impede the draft
Thank you, it's actually a 5/8" (by ruler) NPT and fortunately I have a 5/8 X 1/4" push to connect fitting I can hook the old needle valve line to. Will let you know how things work later today...
I cannot find a needle valve to fit my 3/8 tubing. Will a push to connect valve work just as well to adjust pressure PSI?
I use a little 1/10 HP Home Cheapo water pump (self priming) to lift from my buckets into my tote.
bleach will attract squirrel chewing, hence the calcium hypochlorite. You don't really need to take them down...just flush, rinse at the end of the season and before winter. it's advisable to...
>A second method is to fill the entire length of the tubing with the calcium hypochlorite, including the drops and don't drain it until mid fall.
Uh, doesn't the tubing then absorb the calcium...
Tapped in Haverhill.....was gushing pretty good. Still is.
I recently acquire a couple of 40-in 400 gpd membranes in stainless steel housings so the next immediate task is re-plumbing my RO...
What is your pitch? And did you consider 3/16 tubing if you are not adding vacuum?
Snow is good...it helps keep things cold. Looks like you have a decent slope there.....if you have the trees I see tubing in your future.
I cut 5/16 holes in the top, and screw in a 3/8 NPT barbed fitting that the drop goes over. Keeps the water out and I don't have to worry too much about disruption emptying the buckets.
Nice work....got any snow up there?
Tapping Wednesday in Haverhill
Snowshoes.
So I have been blessed with 2 new 400 gpd membranes and they have 1/2" npt fittings. I want to increase my throughput as 8-9 hours to process 70+ gallons is not optimal. My prior 150 gpd membranes...
I had to replace all my lines this year because I stupidly left them full of calcium hypochlorate for a month and my chemist friend said the poly would absorb it.
work of angels on earth, brad....thank you for your service
I think I have a small bubbler pump lying around I can use to agitate/aerate. Thanks for all the suggestions!
I didn't want to say anything since you already laid out for the 3/16 but you would probably be better off with 5/16 taps and tubing for the drops. Even if you go to 3/16 gravity tubing later there...
So...a brand new season ready to start....time to unpack the membranes from their preservative baths and flush them clean in preparation for the season! But wai! I used all my permeate for my end of...
