Collected 70 gallons from 100 taps yesterday. Todays forecast looks goof for another run.. Maybe more to come in the next few days. Hayward.
Here in the Hayward area I started to tap yesterday. Put in 50 taps and most were dripping well. Today putting in another 50. Glad I waited this year.
A little too cold here in Hayward to think about tapping yet. With well over a foot of snow in the woods, extreme cold and the ice storm last weekend, I don't expect to tap for another week or so.
Yes weld in a ramp. Install ceramic blanket and fire brick over that.
Looks like today may be the last day for collecting here. The forecast looks like it won't run. It will be a long time until the peepers are singing. We still have snow on the ground and over 20...
Here in Hayward it has been a crazy season as well. Tapped the first weekend in March through deep snow. The weather has not cooperated at all. Sometimes it was 7-10 day before there was enough to...
Been tapped for two weeks. Not much happening here. Temps have been too cold at night . The trees just start to drip and then the temp starts going down. Have only collected about 100 gallons so...
That is exactly what I did and it made a big difference. Keep expermenting and you will figure out what works for your setup
Tapping today here in Hayward, WI Let the season begin
Here in Hayward I got less than half of my normal production. Was a different year as far as the weather went. We also didn't have much snow or rain. I think that was the biggest reason why we had...
I have found with these type of caps not to lay them on their sides. When I do they leak and don't seal. I have just let them stand upright and they all seal. I would like it if they would put...
Put in 24 taps yesterday and collected 15 gals of sap today. Today put in 76 taps. We will see what we get tomorrow.
I am boiling with a 2 x 4 flat pan. This year I have purchased a float box. I am looking for a way to hook it up with a disconnect so when I drain my batch I can tip the pan to get all of the sweet...
Tapped last week. Monday got 67 gallons from 100 taps. Yesterday 50 gallons. Keep it coming Mother Nature.
Yea I think being closer to the big lake makes a difference just as it does with lake effect snow. Depends on how the winds are blowing. Want to have some taps in by mid week.
I was going to tap this weekend, but I as well have jumped the gun by tapping early. I will be taping next weekend I think. I built a new evaporator this year and have done a test boil that went...
Looking at the forecast comming up and have got the itch to tap.. Anyone else going to tap soon in the northwoods???
I collect 1/2 gallon jugs that milk and juice come in. Wash them and rinse well. Then I fill about 2/3 full of water and freeze them. When I use them I place them on a metal fish stringer (used...
Pulled my taps yesterday. Low sugar in sap all season. From 125 taps we got 1360 gallons of sap. Made 23 gallons of syrup. What a year. Already into next years firewood. All that is left is the...
I have mine in the front and it works fine.
I think it would work fine. Glass container and a metal cap=what others do.
Another great day for sap 169 gallons today. Second best day ever for me in eight years of sapping. Yahoo. Thought the season was over. Ma Nature sure is fooling me. I'll take it and more.
No. Have had lots of troubles with sap suckers(birds) and re squirrels. A couple of the red squirrels have gone to heaven. Pellet guns are nice and quiet and the homeowners want them gone too. ...
Went out and collected yesterday and got 35 gallons. Mostly ice that had thawed. Today I went and collected. Got over 200 gallons off 125 Taps. That is the most I have ever collected in one day...
