mine did not have a flow arrow
the removable stems on each end are interchangeable if I recall correctly so
the U cups are you clue which way is which.
I have seen the claims that some RO's can be drained and allowed to freeze without damage. There are 2 issues.
1) drain the pumps, tanks, hoses, filters etc to avoid mechanical damage due to freeze...
Watch the level in your feed tank. If you get lots of pressure when the level in the feed tank is high and then the pressure drop coincides with a low level in the feed tank it may be suction...
the pressure you run at is dictated by the membranes, which is not necessarily the same membranes that the
instruction manual was written for.
You say you have a filter but don't say what the rating is. A course filter will allow a lot of crud to get through
onto the memebranes. I think the standard is a 5 micron pre-filter. Also if...
for us 950 to 1100.
you will get the most consistent flow through the syrup pan if you add wood more frequently in smaller batches.
After you put in a load of wood, step outside to see how long you...
I was taught that the rule of thumb for our area was tap on St. Patty's Day.
The last couple years and climate change made that a joke, but this year it looks
like it on the mark
Looks like the only thing you're doing different from most of us is using the corks.
My 2cents worth. Drop the corks.
A fellow in the fruit concentrates in the Toronto area tried vacuum on sap.
Got some great looking syrup ... almost clear ... and tasted just like sugar cane syrup.
As the Doc said ... you gotta...
we tried several different pan cleaners then last year tried "cleaning vinegar" It has double the
acid strength of table vinegar and with a bit of heat worked like a charm. 5% I think. I used my...
More surface area = more heat transfer = more gallons with less wood,
and maybe to bed an hour earlier.
Glad to hear you got good results too. We the sides of the rig are only about 100 deg F you know that 99.9% of your heat is available to the pans. How much gets adsorbed into the pans I guess...
the first stuff I read on firing an evaporator said to "open the door as infrequently as possible"
that meant letting the fire burn down and then filling with wood to the top.
That advice is...
Russ, I'm not so sure there will really be any more sand in the flue pan. In fact it is my observation, (never measured or even thought about it at the time ) is that the concentrate leaves the...
I second that.
The RO will have little to no effect on sugar sand.
All the dissolved minerals that make the sand should still be in the concentrate .... only concentrated

if a filter is working it is collecting gunk on the surface .... and clogging up.
if a filter is not working some of the gunk is passing through .... and not clogging up.
the best filter...
Your wife knows how to get it off. She's been practicing for years. Easy-off. Works in the oven and the bottom of your pans. It is a chemical reaction and it is very slow when it's cold .......
It's not only normal, it's an inevitable curse. Basically the same process as getting calcium deposits in a kettle or coffee maker.
If you let it get too thick it will not conduct the heat from...
Dow makes a good RTV food grade sealant
Google it and you'll find more reading than you wanted.
We've got a 5' x 30" SteamAway on top of our rig and when you get it going it pees out water at about 1/2 the rate that
you discharge used beer. It will fill a 5 gallon bucket in 5 to 7 minutes,...
I got a $ 29 meter first. It was dead at the beginning of the second season. Then got a Hanna 98130 waterproof for just under $ 130. Works like a charm. Note that you should also get a bottle...
OR you could take off the motors (likely capacitor start ) and replace them with motor(s) that will run on a inverter.
The inverter will soft start the motor and there will be no in-rush current...
I think a rinse is all about flow. I run all the pumps but at minimum pressure.
The only advantage I can see with a vertical is that it might help get the air out of them easier on start up. Mine are vertical with the business end at the bottom .... a real head scratcher ... ...
