I use a Milwaukee Model MA871 refractometer that works well. initial cost high ($150) but very consistent and hard to break unlike hydrometers ( I've broken every one I've owned.)

I'm gonna hold of till i'm ready:D. 1 or 2 more weeks i think.
Thats just one days run, and now its back to clear. It was only out for the day so I doubt bacteria had enough time to develop in the bucket.
Heres another purple bucket. One side of the sugar maple, the other side perfectly clear. Different tree than last . Both full buckets! 22275
Yep, ive had the occasional end of run, or rain induced yellow but never in such a high percentage of buckets. It tasted and smelled fine when I processed it so no idea. Coincidently I had one...
Its all back to clear. Was just one run, maybe 70% of buckets had some yellowing, one was like mustard! We didn't have any precipitation and it wasn't warm. I've had a few over the years that run...
Anyone else out there get some crazy yellow sap from today and yesterday? The wind has been crazy, not sure if thats why?
wind, wind ,wind
I'd ask about his raised flue pans(not advertised). double the boiling output for the same footprint.
Mine does 25 gph after first half hour boiling.
Pat
You will love Bills raised flue unit, I get 25 gph consistently with mine, easy twice the flat pan output.

Hi there,
I have some extra boiling capacity and am looking to buy sap in the Groton Ma area. PM me in interested

The trees are ready to open up. South side yard trees dripping at 29 with the wind gusting to 25. Small run yesterday afternoon. 150 gallons run into the rig for sweetening. Getting anxious...
So why does the sap stop running on windy sunny days with the right temperature swings? What effect does wind have on the trees sap producing mechanism?
biggest run of the year yesterday afternoon thru to this morning. Nothing like a big leader bucket full to the brim!. 85 gallons off of 25 or so taps. pumping off the tank and back out and see how...
i upgraded to the Mason 2x4 raised flue pictured in silverados post above from a Mason 2x3 flat pan. With the 2x3 and a blower and copper coil preheater i could get 12-15 gph maxed out with good...
Here are a couple of pics of my new W. F. Mason raised flue. Moving up from my 2x3 this thing should really process sap. Now to shoehorn it into my sugarhouse/shed, brick it, and fire away. Oh yea...
Same for me, Yesterday at 830 in the AM the sun was out and my yard tress where running great, an hour later 10 degrees warmer the clouds moved in and it stopped. Neeed colder nights, only barely hit...
7-8 gallons in the pan and 3 in the preheater. Without hosing the evaporator i need about 4-5 gallons to cool down. At 43 to 1 ratio you'd need somewhere in the area of 100 gallons to draw off any...
my preheater is about 20 feet of 3/8 copper wrapped around my stack. with flow adjusted right comes out almost too hot to touch into my sap tank.
The Blower is a squirrel cage blower blowing in the...
Just ran 140 gallons thru the pans and got 2 1/5 gallons of Grade A Med amber and sweetened the pans. Running low and boiling fast with a preheater and blower did about 15 gallons an hour for a 9...
93 buckets hung yesterday . All running fast and furious. 3 1/2 gallons from 2 buckets in yard tree by 3 pm . Looks like its boiling time saturday.

Hi All, I'm looking for a food grade 110v electric transfer pump for transferring sap from a 65 gallon gathering tank to a 275 gallon tote. The head is about 8-10 feet. Curious what people are using....
I tapped at he beginning of Feb and have 10 gallons of varying grades so far. Will be reaming my holes this week and hope for 10 more in the next couple weeks .

I have to third or fourth Bill Masons product. Great workmanship and functionality. I have to say go bigger as well as I maxed out my 2x3 in just 2 years and am looking to upgrade next season
