Glad you got back going. Did you mention anything about the gas ballast operation? I'm not sure if running that constantly open is correct even though I do.

The filters are easy to change. Usually remove 4 hex heads on the cover where the exhaust is plumbed. There is usually a small spring that holds a tension tension on the filter that is attached to...
I looked at the literature on the GVS 25a and it appears to have a gas ballast valve. This is usually opened to get rid of moisture in the oil. I'm not sure I fully understand the concept... I run...
For something cheap and easy, I grabbed a metal teaspoon measure for baking from the kitchen drawer. It is really thin and bent easy to hang right inside the hood. I put a few drops in it when...
I think these dosing pumps work by squishing a little tube with a rotating cam. This will likely fail somewhat often and maybe more in the off season from not getting used. This is at least my...
I am not familiar with that pump exactly. Some pumps have a gas ballast and some do not. The gas ballast valve is used to rid oil of contaminants, (water for us). A google search can probably...
A quick look at the manual says to change the exhaust filter every 500 hours under severe use. I would consider use for maple as severe times 10 if any leaks are present for a long duration. I'm no...
Just out of curiosity how often are you changing the exhaust cartridge?
Another thing you can look at is any wire connections. Soldering the connections is best if possible. Being as RTD's are only a resistor any other resistance in the "run" can cause this. You can...
I have an oscar 30" mill. I poured a concrete pad for the tracks to sit on and welded up some extra tracks to cut 20 foot logs. It is a manual mill and has served us well, built the sugar house and...
If the lines on the compressor have been open to atmosphere the oil likes to collect water. The "right" way to do it is pull a vacuum and charge with dry nitrogen for storage, then pull a vacuum to...
It is always good to start pouring early. Sometimes if you wait just 10 seconds too long the candy sets up in the trough and plugs the outlet. As with anything definitely a learning curve to them...
Looking at a quick chart a 3HP single phase 240V pump will draw ~17amps. Pumps do not always draw full load amps like a heater would due to inductive vs resistive loads, but at high flows low...
I put a Uni-Strut trolley system the full length of the sugar house attached to the collar ties and used it to lift a 625 gallon tank to the loft, it worked well and didn't cost a bunch. Depending...
My bulk tank cools only to 34F and I had no issues keeping clear 14% concentrated sap for~70 hours this year. That said we went 6 days without a freeze towards the end of this season and I boiled...
We are about 1300 feet and there were still small snowbanks in the shade at 2000 feet on Saturday. With the snowpack we had this winter the season definitely did not go as I had planned.
Shutting it down this morning after a 3.75GPT run since Easter Sunday thaw.
Best sap flow off the season today...
At 1000 gallons a 600RO would work. I'm not sure the GPH on your evaporator but a 600RO will bring roughly 1.5% to 8% at 2 GPM (120GPH). You may wait for a 250RO to have enough to start which may...
Stoweski, I am just up the hill from you and have no plans of throwing in the towel either.
"Somewhat depends upon the types of microbes in the sap and aeration to some degree as well. "
Is aeration a good thing or bad thing? Does UVM run the agitator in the tank continuous, some or not...
Interesting project...

I used a similar type fitting but ended up putting a wad of plumbers putty around the wires as well to give it a 100% seal.
I also run my 3HP vane pump all season. These industrial pumps like to stay running.
My father had a fair amount of problems with his diesel John Deere. Not engine related but it left him walking home a few times. It is really loud and rattles. Not really enjoyable to ride in IMO....
