I'm in Sand Lake and got roughly 21 gallons on 70ish taps today. Looks like this weekend might be better for a run.

We were finally able to get out and boil today. Is anyone else worried about their sap spoiling due to the temps? Any ideas how to keep it cool for the next week?

Looking at a Honda wx10 or a Generac CW10K pump. Will these pumps burn up if they run dry? (if they finish draining a 55 gallon barrel and I'm 100' away checking on a tap or something).
Thanks...
A beer in one hand helps keep me entertained. Friends to talk to help too!
Finally tapped most of my trees today. Sap was flowing pretty good here north of Grand Rapids. Here's a vid I took of the process:

Thanks woodey24. That rope idea was not mine. I probably read about it on this forum. I have very few original ideas!
Will be tapping on Sunday in the Grand Rapids area.
I've only made sugar once on accident. My first year. It was the coolest thing ever. I poured what I thought would be syrup into a mason jar and as soon as it hit the glass it turned into sugar. ...
Ha! Does that evap/pan setup look familiar Ken? They have worked out great for us! Thanks again!
Have you tapped yet? I should have tapped yesterday and now I have to go out of town for a few...

We've had lots of questions from friends and family about sugaring. So we're going to be documenting our sugaring process on Youtube. From pre-season planning through finishing.
Here's our...
I love my Polaris Big Boss 6x6. It will go through/over anything. Only down side is the turning radius.
It's been a slow season over here too. 60 taps have produced 6 gallons of syrup so far. Looking forward to a big run tomorrow and maybe Tuesday before it gets too warm. We decided we are going to...
Just an update for anyone thinking of building a shack like this. It works perfect. I burn the wood walls last. It keeps me dry and warm. Couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I highly...
I would tap the tree on the right.

First boil yesterday. Perfect day for it!
Speaking from experience...I would not use anything that even remotely smells of pickles. I thought my barrel last year was good to go after several bleach/wash sessions and airing it out in the...
It's running good today in Sand Lake. Was a little worried my barrels would blow over in this wind but luckily they were already 1/3 full.
