Sounds like a successful season. I've still got firewood, sap, and time on the weekends in the tank so I'm still at it. Looks like it'll be cooling down again this weekend and next week so I might...
Oh yeah, every day now is a bumper sap crop. Gotta get it while the going is good! Hopefully it doesn't get too warm before you can boil off that tote so your sap stays fresh enough.
Dang, nice haul. I feel like we're in the thick of it now. Hoping to boil on Wednesday and then again this coming weekend. Snowpack is decreasing by the day!
Looks like the next week or so should be decent, at least up here in the Keweenaw. Boiled last weekend and made just under two gallons to start the season off. Not as high of sugar % on the first...
38 taps in today as well. A few were starting to seep a little bit so no doubt once the trees thaw we'll be cooking in no time. Perfect weather in the forecast for the next week or more. Looking...
Likely early/mid next week for me in Chassell as well! Do I know you GanaSugar? We gotta be close!
Boiled on Wednesday, got 1-7/8 gallons of syrup from 62 gallons of sap. Hoping for another big sap day today and tomorrow so maybe I can boil again on Sunday. My snow for sap storage is dwindling...
Yup! Perfect temps coming up next week. Spending this week cleaning and readying my gear, then tapping this weekend. Here it comes!
That's a beauty! Excellent write-up and photos along with it. Top quality all around.
The deed to my property references fence lines that are long gone. The only parts that you can find? Bits of wire sticking out of the middle of old trees!
Based on the last five years I've boiled, I've called it quits somewhere in the early- to mid-April range. Depends on conditions of course. If the sap is still flowin' I'm game to keep boilin'. ...
Not gonna lie, I discovered a weed whacker takes off caked on soot really well. Pan was leaning against the shack after cleaning when I buzzed by it. It's hella loud but the soot chunks flew right...
Great looking weather coming up for a lengthy sap run here in the Copper Country! Just in time for the statewide stay at home order. Looking forward to maintaining social distance by sitting in the...
Depending on how well protected your tank is, you might not get a ton of ice formation in there over just a couple days of cold. Might be easier to wrap a few blankets around it if you're worried...
I've made a few batches of maple wine with great success. A very sweet version, dry, and now cinnamon. https://www.nathaninvincible.com/sugar-shack-special
I've also tried a maple syrup & honey...
I tapped earlier this week outside of Chassell, as did several others I saw. Good looking weather coming up.
I tapped earlier this week in anticipation of the great weekend and future outlook.
Oh no! That sucks, hopefully you get some more decent weather and sap along with it. I've got an auto-feed on my setup this year that's been a big help. It's an insurance against nodding off or...
Finally a use for all this syrup I've been making!
The weather over the past week has been fantastic for pulling in gobs of sap. I can barely keep up! Fortunately the spring crust has been excellent and I haven't needed snowshoes once while out...
Tasty snacks while out on evening walks :)
Good luck! I'm up here in Chassell and Saturday was a killer day. More nice weather on the way ought to get you more of the good stuff.
Great conditions so far for me! Boiled 45 gallons of sap for 1.75 gallons of syrup yesterday, a nice honey color too. Plenty more still to go in storage and on the way with the nice weather coming...
Got my 38 taps in yesterday afternoon and the sap was already flowing in the south-facing trees. Looking forward to a good week ahead!
You could always ferment it into wine. Tasty results!
