Cooked off 500 gallons yesterday and should have another 300 at least for tomorrow, maybe more. Still running but should slow down tomorrow.

Oh man, sorry to hear that. I had a kidney stone once about 10 years ago so understand the pain!! Not fun, hang in there. We had the best sugar and lightest syrup off this last cold snap.
Had some big changes in drawoff temps on last nights boil, a full 2 degrees form start to end. Started out good and had to chase it for next 4 drawoffs to dial it in. Ended up at 220.5 for syrup. ...
Hell of a sap run overnight and thru today. Really dumping and sap is crystal clear and tested at 2% which is our best of the season. Collected 280 and there’s another 200 in the woods. Should run...
We have the Smoky Lake Maple Simplicity auto draw for our 2x6. Love it, 5th year on it and works like a champ every time. You still need to calibrate daily when you first get going with a boil but...
Interesting discussion, why would the feed rate not match the evaporation rate? Is it to do with the surging of drawoffs? Hence the advantage of modulating drawoffs?
26” of snow in Peru. We were fortunate, light and fluffy snow, no ice and winds weren’t bad. Vacuum still OK. Spent most of the day cleaning up and helping others. Sap started running about 3:30...
I am by no means an expert, but I believe most, if not all of the Springtechs are NOT expandable which is why you see them for a little less money than other 600’s for sale.
Collected another 440 gallons today, will boil some tonight and finish it up tomorrow. Looks like a freeze tonight and may get some more to boil tomorrow, but then a long freeze. Trees still look...
Good to hear from you Nate, give it hell!
The arch is the “firebox” that the pans sit on. The evaporator would generally be referring to the whole setup= arch + pans. As suggested above, look into the spring seminars at Bascom Maple that...
The sap filters like what Bascom sells?

We use them, need to order some more actually so thanks for the reminder!
Yup- 620 gallons collected. Run is pretty much done until a freeze but it was a good one. Cook some tonight and do the rest tomorrow.
Just checked the pans our Darveau evaporator and exactly 2x2. Sounds like some bean counter at D&G saving on steel
Running like hell over here on vacuum lines. 18” on the shurflos after chasing down a couple leaks today. Not sure what we will have for a boil tomorrow but could push 600 gallons. Pumps are on,...
Thanks guys, I'll bring our brush and a 5g pail of water to do some scrubbing and use the water to rinse the brush. I'll probably order and try that brush head ennis, thank you.
Ennis,
What do you use to clean the tanks in the bush? We have upgraded to stainless tanks everywhere and next drain I know they should be scrubbed. Thinking of carrying some 5g pails of water...
It really depends on how much much you want spend and how you want to bottle. You have enough taps to run a 7" filter press. If you "batch bottle" like us and most small producers, wait until you...
Dang west sumner, that sounds like a close call. Water has continued to receded around here so hopefully you’re OK. Collected another 420 gallons today and boiling. Looks like we might have some...
Yes you can. Keep the syrup under 190 after it is filtered to avoid forming any new sugar sand. And double check your density as you reheat to make sure it is still close and not too heavy.
We're experiencing the same thing as tcross this year so I would say coincidence as well. I guess its a "finer" niter so it is sludging up more.
Have you asked if they will ship it?
Congrats Dave, you won’t be disappointed in switching to oil. Full throttle from start to end. That’s a good price, I second having the tri-clamp fitting set up. We are fortunate to have a very...
It sounds like you’re experienced with the press. I assume it’s the correct DE- from a maple supplier? How old is the DE? What size press? Full bank or short bank?
Cooked off the 440 gallons yesterday. Probably another 200-300 in the woods that I will collect and boil tomorrow. Nice freeze and cold day today will set up for a good recharge for a mid week run....
