I am in buzzards bay. 32 taps on drops. I tapped 2/2/21 have collected over 300 gallons of sap so far thinking I will be done within the week
Interesting point about northern areas having longer days when the weather is turning. Here in buzzards bay my trees are budding in early March. By the 15th I am getting cloudy sap and it’s time to...
I am on the water in buzzards bay. My season is over before st Patrick’s day.
Thank you!!!
When I go on bascom and look at the 3/16 and 5/16 fittings for a 3/16 line to 5/16 drops I can’t picture exactly what I need to buy based on the pics. I need to buy a book or see some pics of the...
No I just don’t know exactly what I need. If money was the issue I’d pick a different hobby. Just haven’t found the right YouTube video or article with pics I guess.
I apologize for using the wrong terminology. I am just trying to suck as much juice out of these trees as humanly possible to maximize my yield/ boil time! Haha. I am going to stick with my 36” drops...
Thank you!
Thanks since the run is so small and the tubing isn’t too expensive I think I could get away with just using it for one season. I was on bascom last night trying to figure out what I would need to...
Thank you. That is really helpful. I can get lower in grade if I move the collection point a few hundred feet away from the trees is there a downside to having a really long run after the last tree?...
Thanks for the reply. I have been reading but most of the information I am finding is about 20+ taps running in long 100 foot runs. I was wondering if there is a way to experiment with smaller runs...
Happy new year!
I have about 30 maple trees on my property and I live on the top of a hill so all of the trees are on some type of a downward slope. There is a 10-15 food drop in grade. Is there any...
I should also point out that this batch came out with sugar sand in the finish bottles so I am doing something wrong
Thanks. I noticed a lot of sugar sand but this was a small batch I was finishing (about 1/2 gal) I got it up to 217 and then filtered it through a wool filter into my finishing box and it started...
I am sure this has been asked before but what is the deal with the huge explosive bubbles I am experiencing when finishing my syrup? I am just a hobby guy with 25 taps in my yard. I was finishing a...
I have 25 taps. Bought the mid level RO bucket. Very happy I did. It cut my boil time in 1/2. I generally collected 50-100 gal of sap per week. I run it all through the RO once and start to boil....
I tapped 2/3-2/10 collected 300 gallons of sap boiled down to 5.5 gallons syrup on 23 taps. Pulled everything Saturday. I am in buzzards bay.
Thank you for your feedback. I filtered 1 more time after getting the correct density and everything was perfect. Thanks!
Thanks. I appreciate the reply. Yes I am using the wrong terminology. The short hydrometer I have from Bascom has me aiming for 32 at 211. So that’s what I boil to. Seems to be right to me. I just...
Yeah you May be right. Maybe the solution is getting it closer to 32 brix on the main pan before I draw off.
Ok I collect the sap and run it through an RO bucket for 1 pass.
I boil it on a flat pan until the temp hits 219 and the bubbles start rising up in the pan. I either hit it with a sliver of butter...
Thank you for the advice. This will be my third season. I am learning as I go. I have about 25 maple trees on the property here on the water in SE Massachusetts. Due to being on the water spring...
That’s great advice. I don’t think I can’t call my wife the “help” but I will take that approach
Thanks. Good to know
