Funny, I just watched that same video..I’ve been reusing my pre-filters for about 3 years and they still work. I make sure bothe pre and cone filters are wet before use.

I followed the same wayward path as everyone else here. No one understands why ALL of my time is booked this time of year and they keep scheduling other things to do. :^)

Are you sure it’s syrup? You may be bottling it light. Check it with a hydrometer to be sure

I think you’ll enjoy it! I had been boiling on various “hand crafted” setups and I’m amazed at how clean and soot free making syrup on a real evaporator can be :)

@tapdrinker I’m breaking in a brand new Starcat as well. It is an impressive little rig. It took me a little trial and error to keep a hard boil going but I hit 7gph tonight. Glad I made the purchase.

I was taught that you treat each stem as it's own tree if the split/y occurs below the four foot mark. Splits above four feet is a single tree.

Picked up another 16 gallons of sap last night. 1.5% so it is improving. Boiled 20 gals on Sunday, but didn't finish to syrup. I'll be chasing buckets later today after the wind dies down.

If you don't get all of the soap off the pan (and you won't) it will end up concentrated in your syrup giving it an off flavor.

Everything broke free and ran yesterday. I collected a little over 15 gallons. I got sap from trees that have never produced a drop! Two taps were still dry,but I won't give up hope for them yet.

Temps hit 50 yesterday and things started to flow. Picked up 2 gallons of 1% sap. No freeze last night so everything should be thawed out now and probably ran through the night. We'll see.

All total ended up with 94 gallons of sap which ended up making a little over a gallon of syrup.
