Put a few taps in each tree. They’re coming down anyway.
I have had numerous requests for tubing tools this year, unfortunately I have been way too busy with work to make any. Hopefully next year will be different.
Hope everyone has a great sugaring...
Hey! I don’t get on the trader much anymore, so I’m just seeing your post. I used to live near the blue marsh canteen, now I’m in Birdsboro. Would be glad to help you along in this...
I am about the cheapest guy on he planet, broke down after a few years and bought one. Would never go back.
With a standard drill bit you are pushing the drill. With a tapping bit, you are...
Here’s a video of my urn setup a few years ago. Hope it helps. https://youtu.be/9kdVThgyq_M
There is, I’m sure someone will chime in so don’t quote me on this, but I think it is 1/2c per brix per gallon.
I took is not necessary but it makes life much easier. If you decide on a tool, I make them for $160 shipped.
An air gap between the block and fire brick would help. Or insulation.
Sounds ok to me. Just watch that it is not all foam or you will scorch the pan.
Some form of defoamer is about the only solution. Foam tends to get worse toward the end of the season.
Once you try a tapping bit you will never go back. I am about the cheapest person there is, so it was hard for me to break down and buy one. Best maple money I ever spent.
Yup. May get darker but it is fine.
Not necessary, but helps.
The Y issue comes into play with vacuum.
That is how most small timers do it. Save up batches till you have enough.
Fittings will be fine for a drop into a bucket. Also it is your tree. If you want three taps, go for it.
Is the sap clear? If so I would just leave it. If the sap is off color, you hit a rotten spot and I would move the tap.
Absolutely.
Rain will sometimes turn it yellow. Even if it’s not that, You should be fine.
Either UPS or Smart Post by fedex.
If the sugar content is pretty close you’d be fine. If it is just for personal use and you see mold forming you can skim it off and reboil it without issue.
Just remember to make it sturdy. If there is any play in it when you put pressure on it to squeeze the T in, it will twist and make it not line up.
Think of your trees as women. They all look pretty much the same, but they can act wildly different.
Put on your hunting clothes.
I see. Did not read the whole thread first.
