We got about a half gallon per tap on Thursday as well.
Ennis - I was at my local Leader dealer and he was saying that real world numbers on the firing times were not as good as advertised. How are you making out ?

Sap did not run yesterday, froze at night but day got hot too fast 60 degrees. I was
going to pack it in today, but it is really cold today, mud is like cement, so
I might wait another couple days and see. Only made half of usual, and all
my free helpers are sick of it too, and have many more important things to do
all of a sudden.
I have tapped 26 trees this year in Cantley, Quebec, so far made 22 litres of syrup and I have 50 gallons of sap to boil. Only 5 gals of sap yesterday but 20 gals on Wednesday. It's been a weird season. Made 5 litres of very light syrup this year and the rest has been amber.
Buckets are 1/4 full today on average but all frozen solid. Will wait for the thaw tomorrow and see how things end up. Expecting a good weekend with lots to do.
Where in the enfer is Cantley Quebec. I can't find that on a map either. Was friggen cold here today. I had emptied everything late last night so there was to much frozen solid today except one I forgot hopefully it thaws out enough to dump tomorrow or sunday. I have enough frozen sap to boil all day tomorrow if I get started early enough.
I emptied all my buckets last night before the sap could freeze. Cold as hell here today and windy. Suppose to get up to +6 tomorrow so we'll see what happens.
On Wednesday, the sap was flowing crazy here. I pulled two gallons off each tree and had 4 of my 10 buckets dripping over for who knows how long.
Looking really good for tomorrow and first half of next week. Might throw in a few more taps to try and make up for early season slowness:)

Small world. I actually camped in Cantley last summer.
Sure glad this is a hobby and not a job! This has been a tough year to figure out - and the weathermen haven't helped a lot either.
Today should be great, going from a hard freeze to +5, but the future in our area looks bleak. The 2 week forecast doesn't have anything below freezing after last night!! I can only hope the run that should start today carries on all night, and then some - and then I might get to half of last years total.
Oh well, lots of firewood left for next year anyway.
