I figured it would have 'cut loose' down there today. Strange weather for sure.

Only warm enough to drip for a couple of hours yesterday. Tree wells are here, still ice in the tanks, should start to get heavy runs today. Typically my heaviest flows are between March 20th - 23rd so it is a little late but the conditions finally look right to salvage the season. Need 8 gpt to make average......
Only .75 gpt yesterday and sugar dropped to 1.9 pct. RO chewed right through the weak sap eventually taking 6.5 pct to 11 pct. in single pass. 35* this AM but could be just warm air trapped on top of hill. Water and ground frozen overnight.
Got .28 gpt yesterday. I mean it's so tough I 've gotta use 2 decimals. Should be 1.3 but it ain't. Pipes ran small streams all day. Sugar went up to 2.4 pct. Nice clear sap. Still ice in the tanks and plenty of frost in the ground. 32* this morning so could be colder down lower. If it doesn't improve soon I'm going back to partying with M.
My buckets did pretty good the last 2 days yielding 1 gpt which isn't great but for this season it is the best that they have done so far. I know how you feel about it Bruce but vacuum is the answer.
Do ra mi la la la la la la la la, I can't hear you, la la la la la...
Bruce, you already have the RO and filter press...
Okay. Okay. Enough already and still no big sap. Tried to talked to M about vacuum, again. Delayed starting the RO to help her surround and dominate a couple of completely outrageous white ruskies. Thought the jolt might help me see a bouncing hydrometer better. Well her bracketing salvo: "Let me get this straight, Treat. You're proposing that since you think you need something, sap in this case, that you can just take it by force." I tried to reason with her, the negative pressure business, I mean, it's not like it's a leased naval base. But she mortared back, "then you agree, under your proposal, it would NOT be dripping out on its own volition, correct?" Oh boy, it's completely impractical to hold a Kerry election and have the trees choose to go under vacuum so I figured it was a real good time to beat a hasty retreat to my Amber Room and polish stainless and oversee a short RO run and contemplate having the trees vote, if they haven't voted already by the looks of it. But she overran me while I was still searching for the mudroom and OMG, now she wants to see, "the purchase order for that filter press thing." Man, the only spoils of war around here are on Wall Street.
So if M would let you do it you could get vacuum but without her approval you can't. Now I see who wears the pants in the family.
You could cheat a little bit and do some experimentation with that 3/16" high suck gravity tubing. I'm going to try some next year to cut down on the number of useless buckets.
The sap wants to be sucked,,simply take a vote,,,majority rule,,the will of the sap,,could M argue with free will? Would she repress the sap and dare triffel with the sweet goddess? You would simply be facilitating the saps needs,,,helping it out,,,setting up vac ......the goddess likes it
