Poor kid! Two gallons would be enough to give a helluva soaker. I hate spilling sap and with this nice deep snowpack finally starting to rot, punching through is bad enough. I have few enough trees (and a punky enough run so far) that I can collect with a 4-gallon pail with a tight-fitting lid. Don't know if it would actually stay on if I did go butt over teakettle though.
Just put in 80 taps...nothing happening in the King City area.

Hey Steve. I put in another seven this afternoon, and three were leaking right away. A couple of my taps from last week were also running. It won't be long now. :D
storm system moving in, pressure differential from the atmosphere, should be a bit above freezing (plus 2 already it says)... are we in for a monsoon of SAP or what are the thoughts out there?
Hockey tourney for the young lad this weekend so I can't boil... that probably improves the odds of it being a large run!
Yellzee, thanks for sacrificing your weekend for the good of your fellow Ontario sugarers. Your absence will most certainly mean a monsoon for the rest of us. Way to take one for the team, both hockey and maple. Oh, and let me know when you plan to wash your car, I'll put out my rainbarrel the day before. :cool:

I'm hoping to have enough fresh sap by weekend for my first fire. I can't count on the 90gals of ice that's currently sitting in my storage tank until it warms up some more. I love winter and even I'm saying "enough already".
At least when the sap finally comes, nobody'll be no complaining about not being ready.
Thanks Big Eddy, I appreciate the support... think I have most of the snow out of there now. that is crazy how cold next week looks... then a bunch of nights at zero... they are trying to intimidate us!!!!!
Checked my buckets at lunch time, thought warmer would get things going. No sun, so no sap.:(
Hoping things get going soon, Have a few taps with sap oozing around them, did I split the wood when I tapped them in and should I retap??

No, do not re-tap. Yes you either split the tree or drilled in and out and made the hole too big. I did this too and will be more careful next year..Quote:
