Kyle, I seem to be using the phrase "next week" a lot this season. I've been saying that since mid February, and yet find myself still saying it.
No sense worrying about what we cannot change. The sap will run when it is ready - patience grasshopper!
My neighbor reports he can see his 1 tree dripping out his window, maybe with the long hold at plus 2 or so things started flowing!
Mine ran just a little today ;) not enough to get excited about, but enough to put a smile on my face :)
Same here, tiny bit of sap, the ice in the tank should keep it nice and cool
My taps have been running all week , they dont seem to start running till afternoon , as of yesterday late afternoon I could have collected probably around 15 ltrs , but I figured I would wait till today when I get home to collect what is there.
We collected last night for the first time since the 11th. 33 gals from ~150 trees. Some were 2/3 full, others only had a drip in them. Varied by location, sun exposure, size and metal versus plastic taps. Lots of ice. Lots of taps pushing out from the tree due to ice behind. Will need to snug them up once it warms up again.
Still don't have enough to boil. Maybe Friday now based on the latest forecast. Last boil was March 10th.
I decided to add some more taps today out of fear we are going to have a very short season and the fact the later taps i put in were running and nothing else was. This is a real pain for me as they wont run in to my main collection drum and i have to go under two laterals to get to this new drum. Will have to pump it out also. The new holes were running like fountains as soon as i pulled the drill out. Hope this was just an initial pressure release and not a sign my original taps arent gonna produce! Should get in a small boil tomorrow and if the weather forecast is correct we may have a busy next few days.
Mild run yesterday. Southern facing trees ran while temps were below zero. Northern trees were much later in the day. Looks good for today and the week ahead. Will have to figure out how to thaw all that week old sap out! I'm sitting on close to 400L of solid frozen sap.
Steve.
