Can anyone chime in on the new administrator? I see a new member by the name of Tommy Sunshine has a status listed as administrator. Being a member for a bit now I am curious about the new change and who Tommy Sunshine is. Some info would be cool such things as years in the business or hobby or disease however you want to classify making maple syrup, size of the operation etc. Does this mean any new upgrades to the sight or changes in the near future?
Hopefully he is not like the old mod we have that has to chime in on everything and say he is a mod. Has really taken it's toll on here as he is allways trying to make sure he is noticed.

Tommy Sunshine here! I've 0 years in the maple business and am just here to try and help out the community with some site improvements. I'm not here to moderate, not here to show how great of a guy I am.
The biggest reason I am here is for the classifieds. I will have something in place soon, but moving along slowly as Mapletrader.com has such an amazing community in place already. I want to ensure nothing is done which disturbs the balance or loses any history.
I do have some interesting ideas in my head about where we could go with the site though, all without changing the base forums. I'll be working on an alternative site on mapletrader.com in a top secret, highly classified location, with amazing fantastic features, which will have to be approved before moving forward. This ain't my baby folks, its all you guys so the important part is that y'all are happy.
But if you've any ides, questions, or concerns shoot me a message or reply here.

Well one Idea that I have seen on other sites is a keyword cloud. Your a computer guy so am sure you may have heard of it. The history on here is quite vast and sometime its hard to find things so maybe a way to narrow the search a little better would be good.

Welcome to the Trader. My biggest concern is that the trader becomes to high teck. Its important to remember that we are avid crazy people that eat, breath and sleep maple syrup. Having a site that is easy to navigate and simple to use is why we love this site.
KISS is the name of the game. Now if we could get Auto spell check that would be cool.

Being an "administrator" or "moderator" allows you to internally change things like post stickies, lock discussion, close the classifieds... It doesn't necessarily mean that person will be offering maple related knowledge.Quote:

I welcome Tommy Sunshine and hope he can meet everyone's hopes and desires in the classified section. Our sugarbush alternative is a good alternative BUT it IS off our site. I would rather have an operational well designed classified ON our site.
Welcome Tommy!!! Please make it simple, many of us are basically computer challenged, if not totally computer illiterate, myself included.
I too am on the K.I.S.S. side of this whole new process. Hopefully painless. The only thing I could see for several of us is to make photo uploading easier. I cannot upload a photo onto a post to save my soul. I am not very computer savy, as several other traders mentioned also, and it's just impossible to upload with going to some other sight and reducing the photo size. ODD. Then again, others post HUGE pictures in their posts. I'm not THAT out of it, but this sight is a bummer that way.
Sorry:( Cindy for posting such big pics but I hate the process of reducing in size and once you do that the original size is lost unless you upload again to Photobucket, if there is easier way some one tell me my laptop is maxed right now with programs and I haven't DL any.Quote:

As for categories in the classifieds, I'm not someone who will be setting up categories, I'm someone who puts together a machine for others to use.
As a Marine for 10 years I am quite familiar with the KISS concept and its good y'all are so vocal. You don't want many changes and I for one abhor popups, you don't see any on my pages and I would never advocate them for any site anywhere...

Flat and Wiam I am well aware of what a moderator and administrator does. My concern was a legit one. The comparison of running and building an evaporator has no bearing on how this site can and will be run. Thanks for a direct reply Tommy Sunshine and not dodging the question.
His position says ADMINISTRATOR. In my mind that is behind the scenes. Why does he need to know anything about sugaring, if he can set up a classified section.
Tommy... I might suggest a quick edit on your user title to Webmaster rather than admin to help some folks put things in perspective and better describe your roll here. It likely seems like a trivial issue but it's obviously important to the membership.Quote:

I did finally figure out how to attach a picture, but still cant resize them on my own computer. Easier attachments would be a great improvement. Although from a newbie perspective, this site is great and I would be totally lost without all I've learned here. Any improvements to searches and such would only help the site.

I agree with you to a point about a chat room. All threads startout by asking a question or someone looking for some thing, or selling something. Then invariably they take off on others thoughts and ideas that are not exactly related to the original question, but kind of close. I can usually find some useful information in these threads and would not want these changed. I would like to see the "Hey Tommy are you going to Billies house to play tonight" left out or put in a chat room. At least on the threads I have read, these are few and far between, but nonetheless unwanted. Many threads tend to wander, but that wandering sometimes leads to a development. If this "chatter" were put into a chat room, I think the possibility arises for vital (to some) information to never be seen. There's a fine line.

I sure hope you aren't talking about Brian ex. Not long ago you were on here constantly running your mouth about any topic that came up!!! You were always talking about how far behind you were but you were posting ten times a day instead of getting out and doing something. If I remember right you got into some hot water for insulting West Virginians and disappeared for half a year and now here you are, with a whole new tone... Hey Tommy Sunshine I have a request. Can you fix the INTERNAL SERVER ERROR I get and some others constantly when I try to post. It seems certain words or a combination of words causes this. It happens so often It drives me crazy, I reply to a question and Im typing away all proud of my answer and then hit submit and that darn message pops up. All that typing for nothing. WTF You could skip everything else and fix this and I would be content:rolleyes:
