I'm out. while I'm still getting a bit of sap, its cloudy and not coming in at a rate worth boiling.
Interesting year. Late start and short season (3 weeks for me) but still managed a decent yield.
I'm working on my efficiency and not wasting any sap. Lots learned and still more to improve the process. That said, it was fun!

I was surprised to find 200 gallons in my tanks this morning. I'm torn because I don't have a working RO at the moment and don't have the time to process it.
This will be my last year boiling at my Sugarhouse in Somers. I boiled there for the last 35 years with my Dad and then my son. My Dad passed away last year and my 15 year old son wants to expand so we'll be building a new Sugarhouse and starting a new tradition. It's bittersweet but for the better.
I managed to collect about 175 gallons this week when it was running on a few days despite having a few warm days. Sap was flowing decently today off a morning low of 24. I'm interested to see what I'll get the next few days as Temps look fairly decent.
Trees are really budded out here, has to be really dark syrup?
Yeah, it's very dark but still tasty. Sap has been cloudy too. I'm at 1K feet in Ashford and I think that has helped. My sugar bush in Somers though (down in the CT River Valley) is budded out. I don't mind the dark syrup and like I said in an earlier post, it will be my last year boiling at our sugarhouse in Somers where I grew up. It will be nice to have the evaporator here and I can boil as the sap comes in and not have to pump it and haul it.
Just came back from checking on my trees over in Woodstock and I think those are done. The sap was not flowing there at all but I still have a pretty good flow in Ashford. You can see the flow here. I'm pretty sure it's a combination of the vacuum in the 3/16 line (there's about a 100' difference between the top of the hill and the tank) and the elevation. It's a north facing slope so I think that's slowed down the budding process as well.
My Ashford trees produced about 180 gallons of sap over the past few days as of yesterday afternoon. The sugar content continues to be low at 1.5%. I'm going to check the sap to make sure it's not buddy with a test boil but they continue to surprise me. I wasn't expecting that much. I suspect it is buddy sap but my other trees have just stopped producing sap and these have not...I guess we'll see.
