Glad the property hasn't had any squatters yet. I am hoping to build a small A-Frame cabin there before Chatham gets caught up on modern building codes and restrictions.
I will let you know when i'm heading that way and hopefully it works out for a visit, It's been quite a few years since I've seen your operation.
You haven’t missed much yet. I know what it is like to be under the gun with an arch rebuild. I reworked mine earlier this winter to improve it and the first boil Monday, it didn’t work, so I am using this freeze up to make more improvements. Looking for reports from you that you are having a great year.
I have about 400 tapped, not getting squat, 27" at the sugarhouse small orchard, and 22" at the big not finished tapped, and some leaks. Its just been too cold, Friday, Saturday nights were both bow zero, Sunday through last night in the teens. Going to take awhile to thaw out, trees have ice frozen to them at the snow line. Ill be ready when the real sap comes.
Keep after it!
Ive got about 600 tapped and the Arch Put back together, somewhere near 1000 gallons of sap to boil, might get to it tomorrow afternoon, ive got maybe 150 left to tap tomorrow. I cut back a bit on my taps a little. Trying to only run 2 taps on trees over 24" and 1 tap on the rest.
Ive Made about 5 Gallons of Syrup, got all the Taps in and the Vacuum is good, hoping for a good weekend of Sap, only time will tell
Nice to have 5 gal made, glad you got your taps in before April haha. Weather looks great this weekend for both of us, hoping for a big run. I can't have another record low syrup yield season. The buds haven't budged but the weather next week looks frightening down here.
I'm pretty Certain that I will survive the warm up, if it was later in the year like April 10th then no way. But its still March and the Trees haven't had enough time to do their thing.
You've got a point there, you buds are usually a week or so behind mine down here. Hopefully the predicted temps drop a bit so we can get another week or two. I could use a little break, so a few nights without collecting buckets and boiling sounds nice, especially after these 45 hour work weeks lately.
