Can anyone post some pics of the sludge in a cone filter after boiling?
I have brown sludge that accumulates, and I'm wondering how normal this is?
Some of this sludge also collects at the hiw water (sap) line on the sections of the pan dividers.
Niter? Gunk? Funk? What is it???
Sounds a lot like niter or sugarsand.
Keep boiling.

Sugar sand. That's what you're filtering out.
That what I've been told, but its sludgy.. I guess when I think of san I think of hard granules...
Not a viscous brown sludge.
