Old Roadside maples used to get tapped.

Well My neighbor had to have one of his old road sides taken down it was for free as the power company said it was a risk to fall on the wires. it was standing dead as of last year. Estimate counting its about 150+- years old. getting off the first piece it looks like it was tapped pretty heavily for about 7-10 years...from about 30 to 40 years ago. The holes are huge!!!!! so far it has a few soft spots around the first 5 feet or so. very big staining from big tap holes must be 12-16 inches. but again they are also 35 years old.

My neighbor said I could have the wood. I'll give him a some syrup for it as I usually do when my neighbors are getting rid of wood. I am waiting for a new muffler for my POS chainsaw so I am on hold I am hoping there is a really nice section from about 7-20 feet or so might make a nice coffee table :) We'll see when I get to that!!!

its got the sexy black lines through out it I find that some VERY stressed ot standing dead trees have a little more rot at the bottom and more solid wood higher up I hope so!!! it is very pretty wood!!!
