Sorry for the non maple stuff here but...

Does anyone know what those red berries are that they have in flower arrangments in the fall and winter months. I have a bunch in the swamp. My neighbor always has people on her property cutting them for flower arrangments even though she has a rope and posters up now!! I see people selling them on road side stands figured I could sell some to have more$$$ for maple.

Just looking for a name can't seem to find one.

it is a winterberry holly- latin name ilex verticillata

Is it Ginseng? I know there is a big market for that around here. Pays pretty good from what I hear also. Those plants have little red berries on them. Kind of clustered. Just a thought!

red maples- correct- winterberry holly has no leaves this time a year-

regular holly does have leaves this time of year.

look up winterberry holly on google images and you'll see a few good images of them...

I do believe another name for those little berries might be "Black Alder".

Mr. Johnson, your a forestry guy, correct me if I'm wring.

black alder is a different species- found in similar areas- i.e. wetlands/swamps

alder has catkins for spreading seeds, similar to the birches. winterberry holly has berries to spread its seeds.

What you're describing sounds like what we here in Missouri call Possum haw, or deciduous holly. Is this what it looks like?
