I am looking into a tank for inside the sugar house. The Dallaire will fit better but I have hear the leader is worth the extra money. Any thoughts on this? Do you have one? or the other? How do you like it?

Thanks

I know its not on your list, but I love my Lapierre feed tank- its a small one- 120 gals- but it fits right.

has this funny feature which has turned out to be great- when you are boiling and hence draining the tank, as the level gets to about 20 gallons, the tank contracts a little and makes a loud "boing"-

its like having a "low level" alarm on the tank. It tells us when its time to stop feeding the fire.

What size? I use CDL tanks.... 2100 gallon size, I love them. When pricing tanks the bigger you get the cheaper they are.

Well I need one for a feed tank 600gal and I need something for wash water, not sure on the size of that one I was thinking at least 300 for washing.

How big do they have to be before they are free?;)

One million Gallon tanks are free but the shipping and handleing is far to expensive.

You are right Thad. I just bought 2 new, Lapierre ss tanks. They are 3169 gallons each tank and they were not even $2.00 a gallon. I think they were actually $1.50 a gallon, I will have to check the price.

I have plastic tanks now that are a pain to clean. I'm looking to buy a SS for the sugarhouse as well - maybe around 300 gallons. Is Leader really worth the extra $$.

No they aren't and you won't find a better built tank than the CDL. Just compare the frames alone. We used 4- 4500 gallon CDL tanks and my fat butt got inside to clean them and there still isn't any dents and with me in there it is like a nuclear bomb going off.

That red is pretty. But I used to make sure I took the ladder in with me so one of you guys wouldn't take it, because I knew I couldn't bust my way out and it would be d&%n cold in there until I could float myself out.

oldest trick in the book! I do like leaders equipment. I tend to go that route because its made in the usa and its what i was raised on. All newer equipment is generally good quality or great quality, all depends on who ya know and how deep your pockets are.

I like to buy USA also. However , when it comes to sugaring equipment I find the Canadian built equipment to be of higher quailty. The technogly is a more advanced also. I would buy a Lapierre or CDL tank you will get more bang for your buck.

My feed tank is a used milk tank, 415 gal. I have it mounted on the north wall outside the sugarhouse. My other tanks set on the ground and I pump up to the feed tank, thru my UV. I paid $100 for the 415 gal, complete with lids, then I paid $300 for a 545 gal with lids and $0 for a 200, no lids. Look for recently sold out dairy farms. Many will sell the tank for real low prices.

I just took delivery of a 900 gallon Lapierre stainless tank. It was cheaper than Leader and D&G. Nice looking tank from what I can tell.

Between the D&G tubing, the Leader evaporator, and the Lapierre tank I'm starting to feel like I'm a mutt of a starting maple syrup operation. :)

That's a terrific buy if it can be purchased at scrap prices. It might be kind of heavy to move but if I lived within a hundred miles of it, I'd buy it!

What was the tank used for? Is it a bulk tank that goes inside of a barn?

Would he have the capability of loading this on a trailer?

shane hickey

Yes, he can load it, milk was the only fluid in this tank, It will fit on a trailer as log as its a flat bed (no fenders) A goose neck would be best

I'll try to find someone that knows how to put pictures on here and put them on maple trader. For all to see.

Easy way is to go to photo bucket and open an account. And just paste the address here.
