New 12 x 12 backyard fun

3rd year in and I got ahold of a great guy to build my new sugar shack. 12x 12 timberframe 10 foot walls with an 8foot overhang. I chose to go with a deck as it better suits my needs. Cupola is louvered and will be screened in. Went with green metal roof just to give it the right look. RIPTYD

Thanks ... I have a19x36 waterloo for now and ill see how it goes. With my wood floor should I put patio blocks or concrete board(how thick) under the evaporator area ? RipTyd

I would put some patio blocks down, at least under the fire box area if not the whole thing. they are not that expensive and will protect your beautiful new fun. Your place is aesome, and deffinetly send more pics.

I would put down 1/2" Hardi backer. You can get it in 4x8 sheets at some Home Depot stores. it is all you need under the firebox area. If the arch is insulated well heat rises and its the radiant that heats the floor or embers. I dont like pavers because they shift and move around unless you contain them in a frame. Plus you wont trip over the board.

How high above the roof should the stack be? Thanks RipTyd

The stack needs to be twice the length of the evaporator high. It should be even with the coupala or a little higher as long as there arent any really tall buildings very close to your sugar shack.

Per the USBC code on stack chimney or flue heights are 2' above anything within 10'. So this would be 2' above the cuppola if it is within 10'

Ryptyd...I love this shack. I am in the process of designing a 12x16 timberframe shack that will sit on a cement block foundation. Your pics are great and a big help in visualizing some of the problems I didn't know how to tackle.

A question....what are the sills made of? Is that cement? Or is it some type of an engineered product? Are there floor joists underneath? I see a dovetail to catch some kind of a summer beam? So many questions.....

I will make sure to get enough pipe to be above cupola, went with 1/2" concreteboard under evaporator works out well . The foundation blocks are purchased 12" x 2' x 2' filled in with cement with studs sticking up to mate with holes in sill beams and support posts for overhang. The sill beams are hemlock , they were epoxied to help prevent rot. there are 2x6 joists from sides to center beam and 1inch thick floor boards on top of deck. I have a wood floor too . I put metal flashing down on the floor - whole length of evap - and then put patio stones over all metal. Sealed all the seams between the patio stone. Then I raised the evap up on block about 6+ inch to keep the heat up and away from floor. Will have an ash pan underneath fire box to catch all the ember/ash that fall through the grate.

The beams are 6x6 beams. I like your Idea of a pan under firebox. Nice Sugar house too Buckshot. Riptyd
