So I am sure alot of you have heard of the food safety bill. I have mixed emotions about it. I don't know all the details still reading but...
From a food safety, and having kids and a family stand point, I do agree that there are gaps, but if you look at where the problems arrise they are usually from the factory farms. and very large farm crops. And those folks are barely keeping there head above water as it is. (watch "the future of food")
From a small hobby farmer point, tighter restrictions and paperwork requirements, inspections etc. could hurt local small farmers.
I am personally working towards a sustainable farm to help feed my family with more wholesome healthy foods. We all know about factory farming. and everything tastes like chicken except chicken!!! We all know that feed, hay/straw, litter(pine shavings) and everything that goes with farming is very expensive. There is really very little money made after expenses. I am not looking to turn a profit for the next several years and even then I don't expect alot. and I am not into this for the money, you can't be! Everything I make just goes back into maple, chickens, bees etc.
But not everyone has the means or desire to have a self sustainable farm so this will help them be more protected against factory farming mistakes(I hope anyway)
I said enough any thoughts
Here is just one link I found. but there are more.
