So I am sure alot of you have heard of the food safety bill. I have mixed emotions about it. I don't know all the details still reading but...

From a food safety, and having kids and a family stand point, I do agree that there are gaps, but if you look at where the problems arrise they are usually from the factory farms. and very large farm crops. And those folks are barely keeping there head above water as it is. (watch "the future of food")

From a small hobby farmer point, tighter restrictions and paperwork requirements, inspections etc. could hurt local small farmers.

I am personally working towards a sustainable farm to help feed my family with more wholesome healthy foods. We all know about factory farming. and everything tastes like chicken except chicken!!! We all know that feed, hay/straw, litter(pine shavings) and everything that goes with farming is very expensive. There is really very little money made after expenses. I am not looking to turn a profit for the next several years and even then I don't expect alot. and I am not into this for the money, you can't be! Everything I make just goes back into maple, chickens, bees etc.

But not everyone has the means or desire to have a self sustainable farm so this will help them be more protected against factory farming mistakes(I hope anyway)

I said enough any thoughts
Here is just one link I found. but there are more.

This bill is not about food safety, it is about control and taxes. If this passes factory farms will be the only ones able to pay the fees and costs associated with any form of command and control government. With just the big guys making our food, soon even the syrup will taste like chicken. Any of you with any bit of galvanized in your system (buckets, spouts, pans, tanks, canners, soldier) will be unable to sell your syrup on the market unless you go to pure stainless. So of course this gets bipartisan support because the left if "protecting you"(controlling you) and right is "helping business."(making money)

hopefully they can put a cap on on it so that only the the large factory farms will be the ones effected. But will they really be effected once they put those expensive permits taxes/ fees whatever into play it will drive the price up.

yes but I don't want this to turn into one of THOSE threads, but I am sure it will turn to anyway. I was a 75/25 win anyway thats alot of yes votes.

I would rather have a bit more risk than more gov regs beleive me. but this has the potential to be a serious issue. The more I think about this and the more I read about it there is stuff in there that already doesn't belong...a ban on BPAs what does that have to do with Ag. I think that is an FDA thing and should be banned anyway there are many ways to make very good plastic without the use of BPAs as far as the galvanized thing that is already happening. VT perfect example. Personally I don't think its a bad thing!

I am still looking for this bill to read what is actually there. does anyone know where to find that info on the web?

I remember a while back they wanted to implement a program in which every animal that was to be used as food was going to need a chip of some form to be implanted at birth. Whether it was a chicken or a cow etc. It was a reaction to the outbrake of something(can't remember for sure).Well it sent everybody into an uproar. It was said it would be way to costly to do but on the flip side a animal could be tracked from farm to farm and all the way to the processing plant. And then if a problem of disease etc. arose you could then trace the steps back until the source was located.
Anyways it never got implemented. Alot of what I see happening with this bill.
Time will tell and I'm sure it will be a big topic
