Home made barrel evaporator

wondering how the inside is done
do I make a firebox in the front & slope the back up to the stack like many others are done?
or just put my ceramic blanket & bricks all the way through it
A picture of the inside of one would be great

This was two years ago. the sides of the fire box got hot you might be able to dry lay some firebrick around teh curve and up the sides a way. our firat barrel lasted a long tiime with out

Thanks a lot , I am putting in the ceramic blanket before the brick hoping that helps with the heat

we used crushed rock to insulate the bottom of the firebox area, dry layed teh wall, added more crushed rock behind the wall put a layer of bricks funnel high than add the four on top to squeeze the flames against the pan and left some "swiral" room before the funnel. the hot spots are the sides of the fire box which in a 55gal drum is not all that big

When we built this one we didn't burn all the paint off first the black areas are where the heat is. some one inch fire brick might help direct some more heat to the pan but not a great deal. being dry fitted and getting knocked by the wood it could also be a real pain. anything like sand stone vermiculite(sp) will hold the rear brick up not sure if cermic blanket is the thing for this style of setup. one other thing... small diameter wood!!! a 4inch piece was big we tried to keep it under 3 and as you burn the ash builds up making it's own slope
