Just saw this on ebay, thought I'd share : http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Busch-Rotary-Claw-Pump-Mink-MM-1144-BV-Germany-Made-/220528531280?pt=BI_Pumps&hash=item3358865750 I believe these are 30 cfm models, and are the same series that Lapierre sells. I wish I had the cash!

I must be doing something wrong with the conversion - how many inches of Hg will that thing pull?

Has anyone used a busch R5 series pump for sugaring? They are not the rotary claw "Mink" style pumps but the older oil pumps. The price is right, but don't know if it would work for sap.

Are there any trader using this type of Bush vacuum pump? If so how high a vacuum are you achieving compared what you were getting ? Any above 22" or more? Thank you ! Jim L.

These pumps have been around for a long time. They have been used in hospitals and manufacturing forever. I saw one running at the Lapierre open house last spring. They will pull 29" all day long.

Thanks Mike. These thing look good but not much on here about them!! E-Bay price looks real good compared to the dealers. I would only be running about 800 taps on it. So if you say they will pull 29 inch I will be in vacuum heaven!! Jim L

We purchased and installed two this summer, one in our main bush and the other in our secondary bush. Both operate off a VFD. Reasonably quiet. No oil or water to deal with (the reason I like them) and relatively little maintenance. You don't want to EVER pull sap through them though from what I've heard....otherwise you'll be sending it back to the factory. A fool-proof moisture trap is critical.
We looked at them last year, but couldn't find anyone around who had used one. They got high praise from Bascom after the 2010 season, so we decided to give them a try. Should be able to pull quite high vacuum (26.5-27.5" Hg at our elevation, max 28.4" Hg -- at sea level), assuming you chase down the leaks. Rated for 50 CFM. Will let you know what we think in about 4 months.

Dr Perkins, What are you folks at Proctor using as a "fool proof" moisture trap? If there are any trader out there that are using this type of trap I would love to see a picture of one. I see that CDL and Lapierre are sell one with a electronic sensor in it ! How does that work? What type of sensor are using? Do you think a standard trap could be modified to be electronic?
Got a call earlier today saying my new Bush vacuum pump off E-Bay Will be deliverd tomorrow. Shipping from Point Roberts Canada (Washington State) was $5.88.00 and took just seven days! Tonight I looked on E-Bay and they still have 2 left and price has been reduced to $3,288.00 down from $3,588.00.That just a little less than $2000.00 saving from dealers price. There is also a maker an offer box which I used and got $200.00 off what they were asking. JimL.
