i'm in the process of getting set up to sell at farmers markets for next season, so i have a few ?'s for you guys. our state requires that syrup be labeled w/ common or usual name name and address of distributor or manufactorer, net weight or volume in english or metric units, and in 10 point type it must also state"not prepared in a government inspected kitchen". i have been to a few markets this season just to check it out and see how its done and i have yet to see anyone label their syrup like the rules state. usually i only see name/address of the producer and most of the plastic jugs are already labeled "maple syrup" for the required common name. i'm planning on getting some labels made up w/ the info required by the state just to cover all the rules, i was also wondering if anyone else's states require this info and if so where is a good source for labels. i will also be making a call to the state to verify laws as well. heres the state rules.

We use AVERY labels from walmart. They make a few type but we like the clear ones the best. Just go to there website select a template print on your home printer and your good to go.

....and if its any help.here's where I buy my labels- reasonably priced, sticks to the container well, and looks nice. I usually buy 3000 or more at a time, keeps the cost per label down.

What ever you do, spending a little more on the label is worth it. I have seen containers of syrup where the labels where home made and the ink had run. I have seen others where it had faded to the point it was difficult to read. You get my point, I think the apperance means alot. Many times syrup containers being a dense object will cool at night and then when it warms up the containers are still cold and consequently sweat and if your label can't hold up to that it will look ugly.

For name and address labels, I use http://www.currentlabels.com/. They are really nice labels and I usually catch there ads in the Sunday paper and get 600 gold or silver ones for around $ 10 with shipping. I use WV sugarhill jugs and there is a nice area on them for a label.
