Ok I need to know what are maple flakes and does anyone know how to make them? What are they used for?
I sold a quart to a guy at work last night and he asked about them. I never heard of them before.
He said his wife was going thru some recipes and they call for maple flakes. I thought he said that he did find them in the internet but were extremely $$$.

I am still not sure what they are exactly. But it is selling for 6.99 for 4 oz..... it looks like very thin maple candy broken up.

For what I could find it looks like they dehydrate mape syrup to make the flakes, I could very well be wrong on that.
So if I had to guess now after a little research they pour syrup out on into a very thin layer and then dehydrate it. and either break it up or it may already be into flakes sort of like the mud that is left over from a mud puddle in the summer, cracked into odd shapes with curled up edges.
So I am thinking that this may not be something a small producer can do cheaply. I guess it is mainly a fancly decoration to put on top of foods to make it look nice and also TASTE good.

What about using a food dehydrator..... that would work well if you could get the right sheets to use on it.
