Can this type of vacuum pump be used with a mechanical releaser?
just scouting for next year and want to know if I'm on the right track.

I had thought of using a HVAC Vac pump like that but figured it would never do the job, it's not built to run as long or hard as we put them through, and it would take awhile to get the vacuum in the lines.

Thought so, though this one is 10CFM. Seems that this one is rated for higher duty cycle, but might not be worth taking the chance.

Brian,
That vac pump probably will not work for a pipeline system. If you look at the specs it has 10 cfm at free flow(no load on it). For a pipeline system you need 1 CFM for every 100 taps at 18"-20" of Hg. I looked, and the specs didn't give a spec for the # of CFMs except free flow. The one I have for sale is 31CFM at free flow and 14CFM at 15"Hg. Another thing that you can use for a general guide is the size of the motor. Most of the pumps that are use for tubing setups have atleast 1.5Hp and higher. That one was only 1/2 Hp. Hope this helps.

Yes, good catch. I'll keep looking. Don't know if I can afford to invest in this for next year.
I know...I know...it pays for itself. Used that excuse 3x too much with the wife already.

Ever heard of these being used?
17.7 cfm free air, but no listing for @ vacuum. does have 1hp motor.

Thank, Kevin. Will do.
I am assuming this model is pretty common? (i.e. dairy farm)

I think Boden is lining me up with a delaval 73 with no motor for $75.
I'll pick up a 1hp motor from ebay and then get the right pulley ratios from a previous post on HP vs. RPM vs. CFM for these small pumps.
Anyone know where I can buy a rebuild kit for one of these?

You can try Roy Glines in cantabury, N.H.,(I have had mixed luck with him),,,,,,He MIGHT- MIGHT NOT have the stuff,,also try R.N. Jhonsons in walpole , N.H. another spot to try is CJM farm equipment in Derby line V.T. (I have never delt with CJM but seen their add in the farming mag.) Good Luck
