Does anyone know how the big guys cut the contour of the flues into the end caps of the pan? Time to buy some more tools. Can't get maple out of my mind.

Hey Jim I hope you got my Email. Thanks again:) It has to be with a laser cutter. Buddy has one in Janesville Wisc. and if you can draw it on a comp it will cut it out. CAD programs will allow you do draw up most everything.

Haynes, I did get your email. I'm glad you enjoyed it. A laser would be nice. I welded on cuts made with a water-jet machine and it was tough as the water jet embeds millions of sand particles all along the cut. I am going back and forth with a company in Tennesee right now who builds custom hand notching machines. I would like a coping notcher that can make a 1" by 7" square notch cut.

Leader uses their plasma table. Tin snips and elbow grease work well also.

I used an electric hand held shear and tin snips when I did it. Inside corners are tough that way, especially when the openings are only 3/4" wide.
