So I went with my father tonight to help a neighbor with some wood. Basicly we had to pull a log out of a small stream and cut it up for her. When we were done I asked if she had any of the old milking equipment left and she said there was an old pump in the barn that I could have. So I checked it out and brought it home. It's basicly identical to this one on ebay (minus the motor).

Questions- Is it worth monkeying around with?
- What kinda vac can i expect?
- has anyone used one of these? (i think its made around 1950)

Thanks
jason

I have a McCormick-Deering very similar to that one that I got from a friend who quit sugaring. He used it for about 250 taps. I don't know anything about the pump, but would think it's comprable to the old single cylinder Surge piston pumps.

I'm not an expert on this but I think it is a lot older than 1950. I don't know when IH stopped using the McCormick-Deering name or when they produced vacuum pumps. It is a piston pump which is more desirable than the rotary vane pumps. If it will produce vacuum use it. Keep the rpm's down to 400 or so and pull as many inches of vacuum as you can without overheating it.

!949 for the name. Then is was just McCormick until the 60s. They made that kind of stuff a lot just after the war so it could be almost 1950. I had parts for stuff like that up till 1999 when I sold everything at a auction and downsized.
