hi i work for a dairy equipment dealer, westfailia surge, a vac pump has the ability to put out different cfm with different size motors and pulleys, also the level of inches you wish to recieve will change the cfm a little. I would guess 20cfm @ 15 inches, a 3 hp motor would probably bring you up around 50 cfm @ 15 inches, ill look at work and see if i can get you some more info.

A Delaval 73 with 1hp motor and pump speed of 1000rpm will do 8.5cfm at 15hg. It should be good for 500 plus taps. I used to have 300 taps on one with a 3/4hp motor and had no problem keeping 18hg in the system with close to 3000' of mainline.

I had a '73' w/ a 1 hp motor hooked to 800 taps and 1500 feet of 1 inch main and held 15-18 all day long!

I bought Russ's 73 and had about 370 taps on it w/ ~4000' of mainline and would pull 18-19"...did get hot/loud though if I tried the 20's. One thing to note is they no longer make vanes for it so treat it gently.

I called R N Johnsons looking for parts, thats when sales guy said they can make what ever you need for vanes ! Have 'nt tried them, so don't know if he is right !! But just a call away to find out! Hope this may help someone looking for that hard to find vane !!Jim.L

Now that I cleaned it up I know how to spell De Laval. Some gaskets leak ,how much oil? I filled up to first step on dip stick now getting some blow by out exhaust ,or is this normal? can a muffler be used? Theres a weighted sort of check valve on pipe what is this for you lift weight and it breaks vacuum. If you cover end of vac pipe it will pulsate at around 12-15 hg hold weight down firm she'll go to 25 hg. I read how you regulate the hg how is this done?

Keep in mind that blow by is in referance to a gas engine with oil / fuel blowing by the pistons. Oil mist is normal and showes that things are working normal. The higher the vacuum the more oil mist. The vacuum regulator is doing its job keeping vac levels that are safe for milking cows. Now trees dont care so you need to add weight to get higher HGs..................but higher HGs = higher heat

That hanging thing is a vac regulator. The pump setup that I got recently had one of those and if you open it up it may be stamped with a number mine was. I beleive it is the rating of the vac regulator, 15=15" of vac.
