We are using orlon bag filters to filter our syrup. What is the life expectancy of these filters, and what is the best possible way to clean these filters for increased longevity? I realize they are not good forever, but surely they can be used for filtering more than 5 gallons.

Thanks,

Andrew

The bag filters will last for several years with proper care. I have seen the wool ones last for years and I have used them a lot more. As far as cleaning, I just run them through the wash machine with an extra rinse and no detergent. Works good for me and I don't add anything.

The way I see it if there is any detergent at all present in the wash, the first rinse will take care of it and the second rinse will make certain. I never inverted the bags or used a 2nd rinse, but started doing that this year with my flat filters as I haven't used bags for a couple of years! :)

Also, if you are using wool filters, don't use hot water and definitely don't dry them as they will shrink to 1/2 their original size. :?
