70 Buick here, just found this site & it is fabulous
looking forward to learning how to do this right
We have a country place in the Laurentians North on MontreaL in Quebec Canada
We have about 5 acres of Sugar maples but only decided to give it a try this year
I put out 10 buckets picked up an old wood stove & off we went , got started late so only made about 2 gallons
I am planning on making a barrel evaporator & shed to do it in for next year
here was my primitive setup for this year, woodstove cost me 25.00 on craigslist

Hi there 70 Buick --- Just looking at Your pictures -- Looks like You have it figured out. You using the upper pans by your stack for preheaters? For years I had used a 55 gal oil drum with a Vogelzang Barrel stove kit for my heat source and had a very close setup to yours - a pot on either side of my stack to preheat the sap and 2' x 2' pan in front to finish the boil. Then would finish up on the kitchen stove. Well - looks like You caught maple syrup fever too. Keep boiling. ------ Mike

Can't open the picture on this end as they come up with something weird. I had to hunt for two years to find enough gizmos to make my life lese miserable. Then I learnt what steel is in french and could go to a actuall business and buy the stuff. Sort of like a candy store for a welder. The place I found sells a lot of used and odd ball stuff and is cheaper then buying brand new stuff or regular stock.
