Well -- As someone said "misery likes company" --- So if misery is caused by a really bad maple syrup making year because of Mother Nature being stingy with the sap - You sure have a lot of company........ Mike

I made 9.75 gallons on 2 x 5.5 flat pan setup. 364 gallons sap collected off 60 buckets. 4 boils (long). All sugar maple. 37:1 sap/syrup ratio. Medium to dark as well. I was starting to go a little crazy early in the season when the sap was running but I couldn't get the tractor up in the woods to collect due to snow depth.

104 gallons on 500 taps, 4330 gallons of sap, so about .21 gal of syrup per tap, 80 % medium 18% dark and 2% B grade. Turned out to be a average year for us.
19 gathering days, boiling each day. last sap got down to 1.6%
Unlike last year we did not run out of wood and could have made another 50 gallon if the sap would have lasted.:)

Chris

154 gals off of 625 taps- but we also got 1200 gals of sap from outside our co-op. So the numbers drop from .33 gals per tap last year for our co-op trees to .22 per tap this year. also made 40+ gals of commercial this year vs. less than 20 gals last year.

Birdman,
Just about the same figures I have. 200 taps, 35.5 gallons on my new 2x6. Sugar content only 1.5-2.2% on 98% sugar maples.

670 gallons from 2169 taps. I need to get rid of the 300 buckets / gravity lines. They killed my #'s. Vac averaged 22.36 gal/sap/tap. Buckets averaged 7.24 gal/sap/tap. .30 gallons of syrup per tap = good year.

Had a very good year thanks to vacuum 1388 gals. of syrup from 3000 taps thats .46 gals. syrup per tap should have been more but I missed couple of good runs the end of Feb.(still putting up new lines) Goal next year make sure I'm ready in Feb. watch and see the season start late next year in late March
because of volcanic ash cooling the world down. Well I'll be on par with 802's start date then

After reading the numbers I feel we could have done better. Balanced out with 225 gallons on 1200 taps. Made 180 gal. on 700 taps last season. Not great numbers considering no vac last year.

Made about half of what we normally make. Couldn't get through part of the woods with the four wheeler snow was too deep. Didn't get all the trees tap
ped. Got too warm to quick in march.Better luck next year.

476 gallons of syrup from 924 taps. .515 gal per tap. Not quite a good as last year (.59 per tap) but surely can't complain.

24 gallons on 140 taps compared to 40 gallons on 115 taps last year. Crazy warm spell in late march absolutely shut us down. First to last boil was only 8 days this year!

1375 more or less from 5000 taps more or less. Challanging season, had to fight for every gallon. Learned a lot and hope to do a better job next year. Did like not having things froze up every minute. Theron

16 gallons + 2 weeks of selling sap @ the end on 177 taps compared to
10 gallons on 75 taps last year. Alot better syrup quality this year though. I've only been back in this for 2 years now but it sure was a crazy year!!

23 gallons off of 108 taps. I'm feeling pretty good, given how most folks fared this year.

All my syrup was on the dark side this year. I only made one small batch of lighter syrup. And that was from Boxelders, no less!

30,810 gallons of sap,494 gallons of syrup from 1490 taps.Considering the weather, and the fact there was very little sugar in the sap, not to bad of a year.Next years sugar has to be better,it couldn't get much lower, right?

I am a 66 year old retired truck driver and I love working my sugar camp.I do this by myself. This year I had two trailor tank rollovers and three totes laying on there sides when I went to gather sap. I don't know how much sap I lost but 3520 gal. sap made it back to the sugar house and it made 75gal syrup. 46 gal. sap to 1 gal.syrup. One morning I was getting ready to start boilling and I walked by the evaporator and my coat got hooked on the syrup pan draw off valve and cracked it open just a little and when I came in syrup was running toward the door. MAN more work that I did not need at 6:00AM. That will not happen again I put safety latches on my valves. Ups and downs are all part of making maple syrup and I love it so.

I got 10 gallons on 140 taps, all red maples. all medium. I fried a couple gallons to charcoal and had to dump about 200 gallons of bad sap while i tried to salvage the scorched pan.
