road postings and sap hauling

anyone ever run into problems trucking sap on a posted road? we have postings for 6 ton where I'm at in NH-

if I had a one ton dually (around 8000 lbs empty) and a 550 sap tank (4400 lbs), I technically would be over weight-

i know fuel trucks and school busses are exempt- would seem logical that sap hauling would be also...

Milk trucks and feed hauling are also exempt. So I would assume that sap hauling would fall under the same regs. I'm not completely sure, I just vote on posting the roads every spring. Your selectman or road agent would be able to tell you or call NH Farm Bureau. Really we are just going after the guys who are hauling 18 wheeler loads of chips up and down the roads in the spring. And even then all thats require is a road bond.

Talk to the road agent. A lot of them are understanding providing you're not tearing the road up...if it does they hear about it and have to fix it. I bet they'd allow you to haul first thing in the morning when the ground's frozen.

exactly what dill said I vote to post for the same thing. and its basically to keep the tractor trailors out!!! but town dump trucks and tandoms are aloud on them school busses and farm equip. I am sure your would fall under Ag laws as well.
provided your not tearing up road.

the only issue we have is a few of the small bridges can't handle the weight

you should be exempt. sugaring is an agricultural activity. farming. you are allowed to collect your sap, even if you are "tearing up the road".

thus far, i haven't run into any problems using my 1.5-ton to collect sap (loaded approaches 15,000 lbs) on the class V that the sugar house is on.

Wally is correct. Maple sugaring falls under agricultural and you are exempt from road postings. If anyone tells you different , tell them to call dmv. I always figured sap hauling was exempt , but last year I asked a dot inspector.

I'm back as the selectman's rep on the planning board. Man I didn't miss those meetings. Got home at 12:15 the other night. And that's during a downturn. The worst was 2:45.
