I had to go away for 13 days so I got a UV light with a recirculating pump to keep my sap fresh. When I checked it it has a brown tint to it about a grade A color, it smells ok and is not thick like spoiled sap, do any of you know if it would be ok to use? Please let me know if you have had this situation before.

a bit of an update. It tastes fine but if you don't hear from me again it had a tasteless pathogen. I am doing about 1 gallon in the kitchen, once in the ss pot it was not as dark as I thought more the color or sap that has gotten rain in it.

Test boil was fine a darker grade a and taste was good no off tastes or after tastes. I'm thinking it was just dead bacteria that would have spoiled the sap if not for the UV well worth the investment!

Did you use a fancy maple-supplier light or a generic flourescent UV/black light of some kind? Glad to hear there weren't any fast-acting tasteless pathogens in it! :D

as I only have about 100 gallons of storage
