As the emergence of the Peepers signifies the end of sugar season....

Has anyone heard them this year yet?

Haven't heard any peepers here in Smithville flats, Ny(20 min. north of Binghamton). Monday night we had about an inch of rain and there were frogs all over the roads, but nobody was peeping.

My father said he heard some the wensday before last.
I have to say my usual end to maple season is when I start up the bikes. I'm 50% there. And I saw my first pack of outlaw bikers, are they the new redwinged blackbird for a harbinger of spring.

The red-winged blackbirds always return here about 1/2 way through the maple season. This year, they returned about 2-1/2weeks ago.

I believe I heard a single one on Sunday. Other frogs and peepers are getting pretty noisy in the swamp where my soft maple bush is. Many buds have broken, but still don't detect any bad flavor in the sap. Steam smells so-so.

Peepers would neeed a jacket still here. The water still has ice in it.

Forgive my ignorance here, but what are peepers?

Peeper's are frog's. Traditionally, the sound of frog's peeping signals the official end to sap season. If its warm enough for the frogs, you've got buddy sap. All thats left after that is the clean-up.

No frogs peeping here, thankfully...

Peepers have been sounding off in Andover, Ohio. However, I think they are freezing solid as we speak.

Boiling tonight I could hear the peepers for the first time. Not lots of them but certainly they are getting started.

Peeper's are frog's.

OK, got it. Around here, we just call them "frogs".

I got all confused because people were saying "peepers and frogs" as if they were two separate things....

Any peeper that was out around here today is a popsicle. Man it's like winter out there today. Should set up the trees for a couple good runs before it heats up again.
