View Full Version : Need one more run to flood my pans
I am done making syrup for the year I think. I am hoping for one more day so I have enough sap to flood my pans and let them set for awhile. Looks like below 30 degrees on Thurs, Wed, and Fri nights. Does it matter what quality of sap is left in the pans to ferment?

As the idea it to allow the sap to turn in the pan, I can't imagine that it would matter the condition of the sap you put in. I've never done this, but would like to try. Let us know the results. I imagine you would have to leave it a couple weeks, maybe a month?

Why not boil, sounds like there might be a good 10 days coming up starting Wed or Thurs. Might be the best streatch this year.
As far a sap to flood the pans. It should make no difference. Should even be able to flood with buddy sap. All you are doing is letting it ferment to soften everything.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?
I'm in NW PA, near the Ohio line.
It's been warm the last few days, and it was fairly warm for a stretch before.
The 7 day forecast is calling for lows below freezing on Wed/Thurs/Friday.
The buds on the Reds haven't swelled yet, sugars as well.
Is it worth me hanging the buckets again? I left the taps in, but cleaned up the buckets.
Thoughts from any folks in the Cleveland to Buffalo corridor?

Well if you get sap go for it. If you don't get any sap then don't. I am ready for the next cold spell hopefully. I would like to at least equal last years syrup.
