Just curious who has plans on taking advantage of the spring sales and will be upgrading evaporators after this year? :)

I am sure I will up grade I am using a 2x3 that works great problem is I have far to many trees for the size of the rig and I dump sap all the time.

Yep, I'm going to boil again this year on my Half Pint and will likely bump up to a 2'X4' raised flue unit for next year. I have 39 taps out right now and will probably add 30 or so more for next year. 70ish is too many on a Half Pint, at least it is for me.

ya upgrade sounds good. looking to stop boiling on my two pan cinder block arch. build a shack and put a small evap in it like a 18" x 5' / 2' x 4'.
This will shorten the long boiling days + I will not be able to be rained/snowed out and end up with a back log of sap.

I will be upgrading from a halfpint and 3X5 flat pan on a block arch to atleast a 2X6 or 3X8 they will be used though. I already have a 3X8 that I have first dibs on. I mite try to get a 2X6 they I no of that's hasent been used in a while first though. Oh and yes 70 taps is wayyyyyyyy too many for a halfpint.

I have to do something. Boiling yesterday from 5pm to 2:30 am for 40 gal of sap is a joke. Then get up at 6 am for my real job. Was not a good boiling night it was foggy which did not help.

I'll be upgrading for 2011 but in a different way than most. I'll be adding a second steam tray evaporator identical to the one I already have so I can stagger start visitors who want to make their own syrup. I would love to go to a flow-through style evaporator (for my own enjoyment) but direct sales just isn't my market and not nearly as profitable given I'm surrounded by big producers.

We will be upgradeing both evap and sugar house. Moving to dads to take advantage of free natural gas and hoping for a 3x8 evap. We will see what happens.

Looking to get a 3x8 and retire our 2x6 we've had for 25 years now. It's just getting too much when things run well. we've gone from 150 taps to almost 300 this year and was looking to get out another 100-150 next year.

Gonna go up to a 3x8 or 3x10 for 2011 and up my taps to 350 to 500 also putting up a new sugarhouse 20x24 in the works already. Sold my evaporator tonight and just bought it last sunday. Like all say this just keeps growning on you and theres no stopping the bug from getting you.

I am upgrading from a 2.5 x 4 to a home made "airtight" 2.5 x 6. Should be able to double my evap. rate with the new rig. Ran 120 tapes in 09, unfortunately I will be unable to tap this year due to illness that set me back from starting & completing the new arch and pans. Can't wait to do at least a test boil. Don't worry I am getting counselling for the withdrawal I am experiencing not taping this year. If the season runs longer than I think it will I may be able to do a bit of sugaring. Hope to complete new set-up this weekend. Good luck to all.
