Thanks to a bit of encouragement from Haynes I did get a Gast dry vane pump. Hooked it up today.
1300 feet from the pump it was pulling 23" at the first releaser with about 200 taps on it.
Over the next couple of days I'll be adding 2 more releasers and another 600 feet of 1" to connect them.
Got to get a check valve. When I pulled the plug there was a moment of silence then the pump wound up in reverse. I'm sure that's not good for them.
Thanks Haynes.

glad to hear of your success today my canadian friend. Waiting for the cold that seems to be taking its sweet A time to get here. The waiting is the hardest part sometimes. Maybe its murphys law that I got the transducer installed and running so the season is over. LOL

Got the second releaser going today with about 200 taps on it.
The Gast pump had a hard time keeping 20". Still some leaking that I can clean up. Stress releif hooks seem to be the worst fittings with air bleeding in at the parting lines from the mold.
By the time I get the 3rd releaser going I may wish I had another pump.
Sucked in about 160 gallons today.

i had the same problem, musta replaced a hundred of the hook connectors that have the nail loop opposite the hook, not sure the brand, but the replacements are a different brand i think and work alot better, the hook is slim and closer to the fitting so less leverage

Well lots of tweaking leaks and the little 3/4 Hp Gast pump has the system back up at 21". Still got 200 more taps and another releaser to put on but those pipes still have the preservative in them that I put in last fall ... and it didn't thaw yet so it will be at least another day.
Hauled in 220 gallons. Tomorrow the RO gets started.

yeah get the release valve and a ball valve right at the shut off point for the pump shut the ball valve and open the release valve and shut it down ...no more backwards!!!
Vacs are awe-some!!! you will see the difference in the amount of sap holy carp!!!! I really can't beleive the difference I wouldn't have half the amount of sap that I got this year so far without the vacuum!!!!

Brent Im Glad its working out for you. Once all is hooked up and you take the walk in the woods with the tape and clamps you will start to tweek the system and find the weak links.:)

Haynes you've tweaked my curiosity .. is there somewhere beside threads on mainline fittings that you use tape.
I have some lat line fittings that leak and I'd sure love to find some gunk that would seal them up.

Well today I got the last couple hundred taps in the final section and fired up the 3rd releaser.
No more yippee. Despite my best efforts as sealing everything the vac went down to 13" and stayed there all day. I had hoped maybe by the end of the day some of the wood gases would have been sucked out of the new section and the vac would go up. No joy. I think I need another pump on line.

Hi Brent
I was on leak patrol today as well. Some people use electric tape as a quick, temporary fix for small lat. leaks. I've tried it - works OK but does not always work.

Yes, I went through the same the first year. I had 360 taps on 5 cfm. Ran at 13" as well.

Brent what type of releaser are you using? I dont tape on tap, Ts or stars but we do end up with it on saddles and splicers/couplers. Do you have a valve at every mainline that enters the releasers so you can isolate the sections that are causing the most loss of vacuum?
